I would just like to say for the record that Frenchcanadian's french accent is, um, quite nice. I can say that me speaking in French would turn no one on, lol.

Oh Federer is boring! But yeah he never gives up Nadal will beat Federer in Wimbeldon one of these days, I just know it. And I agree with BeaStkid, Nadal is def. hotter.

You're right Florida wasn't a pushover in their bowl game against Michigan, we appreciate the effort.

Did someone mention Michigan? Go Blue! Was that a Heisman winner sitting on the losing side of a bowl game yesterday? Oh yes, it was!

I actually think in the next few years you'll have a state actually pass a marriage law. It will certainly happen in California if the next governor is a democrat, the legislature there has passed a gay marriage bill two times already that was vetoed by Schwarzenegger. If the New York state senate goes democratic in the next election cycle, I can see that state actually passing a gay marriage bill and not just civil unions. In fact in New Jersey Corzine said he wouldn't veto a gay marriage bill if it came to his desk, even though they already have civil unions there.

Yeah I think it's an interesting quandary, personally I'd rather like the story to be unfinished, the few times I've read stories by authors where other people finished it, it seemed a little off. I guess I would try, it might be a fun intellectual exercise.

The funny thing is that the United States served with several armies in Afghanistan with openly gay armies.... England, Canada, Israel. Is there something about our soliders that they're too fragile to handle openly gay men? LOL. The real problem with don't ask/don't tell is that it's arbitrary. If your officer doesn't care, then nothing will happen to you. But if your officer doesn't like you, for whatever reason, they can use your sexuality as a weapon to throw you out of the service. It's not really Don't Ask/Don't Tell, basically if anyone mentions that you are gay, you can be targeted. Further, say you're the target of anti-gay harassment in the military service, even if you don't happen to be gay. Are you going to report the abuse to superiors and thus give them a reason to eject you from the army? No way. In fact, gay soldiers are less safe in a don't ask/don't tell environment. Either the military should just ban all gays or let them serve without fear they could lose everything with one wrong move. Basically we have an army where you can enlist if you're a high school drop-out, have been treated for mental illness, committed minor crimes but not if you're gay. Does that really make any sense?

LOL. Well, thanks to the Lawrence decision, which struck down sodomy laws, age of consent laws should apply equally no matter the gender of the participants. But the supreme court hasn't specifically said this, but it did suggest that was the law in a case involving a Kansas teen who was 18 who had sex with someone who was a week before his 15th birthday and got a harsher sentence than he would have gotten if the pair were a heterosexual couple. So anyway, basically yes the age of consent should be the same state by state, I don't know if every state has changed it's laws to reflect that reality, but I doubt any court would allow a prosecution of an age of consent violation for a gay couple where the law provided a different age of consent for straight couples.

I agree with friendly face. Our constitution was written with very vague terms for a reason, because no one at the constitutional convention could agree to more definite terms. If you read the text of the constitution, it often leaves more questions than answers. For example what does "due process of law" mean? What does equal protection mean? What does the first amendment mean? It might seem obvious at first, the government can't restrict your speech, but clearly that's not true because you can't yell fire in a crowded theater. So what speech can the government restrict? And why? When the 14th amendment was passed after the civil war, no one thought "equal protection" of the law prohibited segregation of the races. But clearly that wouldn't fly today. What I mean to say is the constitution is a living document, maybe that's because it's so hard to amend our constitution (maybe England is right not to have a constitution at all save the Magna Charta) so we take the vague terms of the document and endow them with new meaning to suit a changing world. This doesn't make what we do wrong, it's just the way we've adapted to our constitution.

Well the real danger is if you're happen to be 18 or 19 and dating someone underage. Otherwise they rarely apply the law to two underage people. And well they can't apply the law to two people over the age of 18, no matter what kind of kinky sex people over the age of 18 have consensually. It's really much better than when you could go to jail for sodomy, the sodomy laws were only invalidated four years ago. Just try not to get caught having sex in public.

Oh yeah I guess the cam would be considered child pornography, as long as they were in different states. Do you want to know the real irony of that internet law? It was championed by none other than former Congressman Mark Foley.

Technically with the federal law you have to travel to another state with the intent to have sex. If your intent is to camping and you have sex you've not run afoul of the law. It's all about intent here. You just need a good excuse for why you both left the state. Although here's an interesting wrinkle. Say you're 18 and your boyfriend is 17 and you guys live in different states. And you show off to each other on cam. That's against federal law, technically that's child pornography. The federal government is allowed to condition the grant of money on the state's following a rule. For example, the federal government gives money to fix the interstate highway system on the condition the drinking age is 21 or that the speed limit is a certain number. The federal government could condition the receipt of education money from the federal government on the fact states make students pass state education tests. If each state didn't want to follow the rule, they didn't have to take the money. If the federal government wanted to establish a nationwide age of consent, they probably could. There's very little the modern federal government could do if it put it's mind to it.

To be fair to the closet cases, I've been on dates with guys who neglected to tell me they had boyfriends as well. So closeted or not guys can still be jerks, lol. I'll stop being bitter right now it is the holidays.

Ahhh the Perils of Pauline. It's a good movie, a classic, introduced a new term to the lexicon. And yeah I agree I don't think Andrew and Chris have done anything "wrong" but clearly if I were Jamie I'd be like "could you not cam with my BF, mmkay?" One of these days I'm gonna surprise you! I'm not that predictable.
-
It really would depend on the level of closetedness for me. I mean if they weren't out to their parents? That would probably be okay. But if they weren't out to anyone? At all? That would probably be a problem. I've gone on dates with guys who were so in the closet.... they neglected to tell me they still had a girlfriend. That was certainly not okay.

Brendan is pretty funny, I like him. And I like how Brendan has fun around Andrew. It's good to have a straight character like that who isn't wigged about whenever his friend does something gay. My only question is this (and it's purely because you know I like to tease Frenchcanadian): When are these boys going to have sex in person?

Considering how much work it was to teach my friends to drive stick after they got their license. That's a good policy, lol.
