    Chapter 53

I don't know that Carl is "good" in this context, I think he found himself in a situation that he knew was beyond him, and sought out the guy that could help him. I think Carl is a scheming opportunist, and as Wade noted, their goals lined up. This time.

    Chapter 53

October 25, 2000 Redwood City, CA Wade “You still on the team?” Kramer asked, giving me shit as I put on my gear. I had dragged my tired ass straight to practice from the airport after a long series of flights from Virginia. This would be our last practice before we went to Tempe to tackle Arizona State. “Bite me,” I said, but with a smile. My dismissive response didn’t show him how much his comment had bothered me. I’d been so absorbed in other things - in the shit with m
  3. You'll be happy to know that in Chapter 16, HMS Bacchante finally sets sail. We have one more chapter to wrap up our loose ends in London.

    Chapter 14

You were correct. Good guess, or logical conclusion, as it were.
  5. I've got the rough drafts of several future chapters done, so I thought I'd post this list so you know what to expect: Chapter 53: Wade Chapter 54: Will Chapter 55: Will Chapter 56: Wade Chapter 57: Wade Chapter 58: Will Chapter 59: Wade Chapter 60: Will Chapter 61: Will Chapter 62: Will Chapter 63: Will Chapter 64: Will Chapter 65: Wade

    Chapter 14

There are a multitude of reasons. I better think of a good one by the time the story ends. :-)

    Chapter 14

You're welcome! I'm glad I could brighten your weekend! I think, as someone noted in the forum (sorry...too lazy to go back and look it up) that members of the aristocracy watch out for each other. Granger simply wants to make sure the boy can take his proper station without being embarrassed. Now, in a few years, his motives may change entirely. ;-)

    Chapter 14

That was no cliffhanger, not by any stretch of the imagination. :-) Nice try.

    Chapter 14

I think you must remember that sometimes characters are introduced well in advance of their critical usefulness. Gatling is a perfect example of that.
  10. You guys think up better plot lines than I do. Hood was first an Irish peer, so that's probably why he knew of Kingsdale. It was quite common for someone like Hood to pull strings for a friend, in this case, perhaps an Irish judge or someone, to help a young peer try and regain his fortunes. And with Granger's reputation for prize money, an appointment to Bacchante would seem to be a good match. I can see other sons of peers (like Clifton) or magnates (like Llewellyn) furious that they weren't allowed to go on this voyage, despite the risks. As for Maidstone, I think Granger said it best. When guineas and pounds are on the line, all bets are off.

    Chapter 14

May 27, 1797 “Thank you so much for your hospitality,” Granger said to the Marquess of Winchester. He was the father of Lord Henry Paulet, a fellow naval officer and a friend of Granger’s, and had offered to let Granger, Winkler, and Kingsdale stay the evening with him at Amport House. The trip to London from Plymouth was in excess of 200 miles, and required two days of travel. Amport House was a lovely place to stop, as it was almost in the middle of their trek.
  12. I love you too!
  13. This is cool! I would have just hit "like" but I exhausted my quota for the day.

    Chapter 52

It will be interesting to see how our CAP family views that.
  15. You know what I don't get? How come it's so freaking dry, there's this big drought going on, but it's still humid? WTF?
  16. I'll bet Will questions their judgment too.

    Chapter 52

Wade joins us in the next chapter. I think the argument between Will and JJ is less about who is right and who is wrong, and more about displaying their relative levels of maturity.
  18. That may be. Then again, he's still young. There's reason to hope he matures.
  19. Well, I had a few good chapters penned about that, but Jeremy says that people are sick of Will and his drama. (smile)
  20. I think that pretty much sums Will up. And of course everyone understands that, and they'll treat him accordingly.

    Chapter 52

Will didn't seem bothered that his dad saw the pictures. Maybe he's not modest, or maybe he's comfortable with Brad that it doesn't bother him. Brad's got enough to worry about at this particular moment without taking up the underage issue with Will. Besides, he surely knows it's entirely possible Will was mostly bluffing.

    Chapter 52

I think that's can be one of the more interesting challenges to having a son: dealing with him when he's a lot like you. ;-)

    Chapter 52

You have a vivid imagination. More on this in Chapter 54. A spoiler: No one dies in Norway. I mean, people die everyday in Norway, but no one in this story dies in Norway. :-)

    Chapter 52

Why thank you, LEN. I do appreciate reviews, and feedback in the forum. It would suck writing to a void.
