Pirate activity is going to be specific to the area. In the Western Mediterranean, there were Barbary pirates, as we've seen in the story so far. The Pirates of the Caribbean (SMILE) are in the Caribbean, and Granger hasn't spent much time there. There are also pirates in the Indies, but I have research to do on them still.
LOL @ the first two paragraphs.
You're right, of course. As I write these stories, I periodically have those "Holy Shit!" moments about how bad things used to be. Seeing repressed ice skaters is certainly one of them, but I think the most pronounced for me (recently) was Brad and Robbie's wedding, where it was impossible for them to marry anywhere in the world. And that was in 2000, just 12 years ago.
I think that one of the things about this chapter is that it's possible to take two entirely different perspectives on it. There's a little truth in both.

Tonight was the big opening reception. I looked out at the room and there were hot guys everywhere. It was like a gay guy’s paradise. Skating sure built some cute asses. I tried not to look too lustfully at the guys, but it was hard. Damn. I strolled over to where JJ and Tiffany were standing around talking to other skaters.
“Hey there! How are you doing?” I asked, giving JJ a big hug.
“Great, now that I got some sleep. Jet lag suck
Actually, "Commander" is a temporary rank given to a lieutenant who commands a vessel. When he is done commanding that vessel, his rank reverts back to Lieutenant. It is similar to the rank of "Commodore", which works the same way. A captain can be made a Commodore of a squadron, but once he is no longer in charge of the squadron, his rank reverts back to captain.
There's always hope. I think that Will is the kind of guy who goes along, goes with the flow, until someone messes with him, then he just loses it. I have a feeling Tonto was that way too. After a while, people learn not to screw around with you.
Really? Some thoughts:
1. This is CAP. Drama is required.
2. If you think about it, the molestation allegation (if it was just an allegation) could very well have led Pat back to meth.
3. A positive circuit bottom is pretty realistic, sadly enough.
4. No fat ladies are singing yet.
Thanks for that. You're right: we have to remember where we have been and what we have seen. I'm not sure how deeply I want to delve into the dark world of the circuit, but I felt that it had to touch the story.
