    Chapter 49

There is supposed to be a calm before the storm, no? I figure the forums will flame up in a few chapters. :-)
  2. Pirate activity is going to be specific to the area. In the Western Mediterranean, there were Barbary pirates, as we've seen in the story so far. The Pirates of the Caribbean (SMILE) are in the Caribbean, and Granger hasn't spent much time there. There are also pirates in the Indies, but I have research to do on them still.

    Chapter 49

LOL @ the first two paragraphs. You're right, of course. As I write these stories, I periodically have those "Holy Shit!" moments about how bad things used to be. Seeing repressed ice skaters is certainly one of them, but I think the most pronounced for me (recently) was Brad and Robbie's wedding, where it was impossible for them to marry anywhere in the world. And that was in 2000, just 12 years ago.
  4. I think that one of the things about this chapter is that it's possible to take two entirely different perspectives on it. There's a little truth in both.
  5. Quite possibly Keep in mind that in those days, 'bigot' was not really an issue, since society was purposely stratified.

    Well put.

    Well put.
  8. I'll help out with Chapter 49
  9. I've actually pondered that, but I'm probably not going to do it. It delays Granger's departure longer than I want. Good thinking, Kookie!

    Chapter 49

October 30, 2000 Hamar, Norway Will Tonight was the big opening reception. I looked out at the room and there were hot guys everywhere. It was like a gay guy’s paradise. Skating sure built some cute asses. I tried not to look too lustfully at the guys, but it was hard. Damn. I strolled over to where JJ and Tiffany were standing around talking to other skaters. “Hey there! How are you doing?” I asked, giving JJ a big hug. “Great, now that I got some sleep. Jet lag suck

    Chapter 11

Actually, "Commander" is a temporary rank given to a lieutenant who commands a vessel. When he is done commanding that vessel, his rank reverts back to Lieutenant. It is similar to the rank of "Commodore", which works the same way. A captain can be made a Commodore of a squadron, but once he is no longer in charge of the squadron, his rank reverts back to captain.

    Chapter 48

Lots of questions...answers to follow...eventually (insert evil demon icon). Who said Pat was gone?

    Chapter 11

No kidding. Let's freakin' sail already.

    Chapter 48

Similar to that old adage: If you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas. Or something like that.

    Chapter 48

There's always hope. I think that Will is the kind of guy who goes along, goes with the flow, until someone messes with him, then he just loses it. I have a feeling Tonto was that way too. After a while, people learn not to screw around with you.
  16. Not really. They hire these really cute repressed Christian guys who like to blow you in the bathroom.
  17. Really? Some thoughts: 1. This is CAP. Drama is required. 2. If you think about it, the molestation allegation (if it was just an allegation) could very well have led Pat back to meth. 3. A positive circuit bottom is pretty realistic, sadly enough. 4. No fat ladies are singing yet.

    Chapter 48

You put it well. Will is in that awkward stage, where he can seem (and be) real mature one minute, and real immature the next.

    Chapter 48

Thanks for that. You're right: we have to remember where we have been and what we have seen. I'm not sure how deeply I want to delve into the dark world of the circuit, but I felt that it had to touch the story.
  20. That's exactly it. In HMS Belvidera, when they were in Roses, I actually gave us a little glimpse into Andrew's mind.

Thanks Tim! Those are some tough issues.

    Chapter 11

No shit. Give me an Atlantic gale any day over this stuff.

    Chapter 11

    Here's a clue. We haven't met Bertie's replacement yet.

    Chapter 11

This part will tie itself together in 2 or 3 (or 4) chapters. :-) I think.

    Chapter 48

It's only sad if it turns out bad. Everyone makes mistakes.
