He's like a knight in shining armor. More or less. ;-)

If you go back and start reading "Poor Man's Son," where we first encountered an adolescent Will, you'll see his maturity process bear fruit as we get to this story. I think it's important to think about what a strong effect JP must have on him. I think that's helped his control his temper, and it's made him smarter.

Inquiring minds want to know. :-)

Thanks Gary. You raise a bunch of interesting issues. The only plausible reason for Zach to do this with an e-mail is because he can't bear to look Will in the eye when he does. That would be hard to do if he was dealing with a person he no longer loved, but it would be almost impossible if it was directed at someone he still had feelings for. That raises those suspicions that there is some other reason, besides his own personal choice, that Zach is making this decision.

I try to keep you guessing! As I said below, I think that Brad's strategy is misguided because he uses methods that would work on JJ but targets them at Will. Shows how totally fucked up he is.

I'm just a little slow in responding to reviews, but I do appreciate them! 1. It's a control thing. The irony is that Brad's approach to things like this would probably work with JJ, but usually backfires with Will. 2. Possibly. 3. There are a number of reasons. Maybe the staff is too busy and overworked to pay attention to things like that? Or maybe they don't like Alex all that much? Or maybe His Grace only employes myopic people. :-)

July 19, 2003 Escorial, CA Will My phone rang, pulling me out of my morning slumber. “Hello,” I said groggily. “Will, sorry to wake you,” I heard Jake Pike say. “You’re not sorry at all,” I joked. He chuckled. “We moved like lightning on this. We got the trust set up, and they accepted the contract on the condo. We close on Friday,” he told me. He was all stoked, because he’d done a good job and he knew it. “That’s awesome! Great job!”

Thanks for the review! I'm trying to remember the boyfriend that Will slept with, but regardless, I think you describe Will very well. He sometimes seems to be willing to fight to the gates of hell for those who give him little reason to do so.

I loved your review, but I was kind of surprised by your last line. Will hooking up with Tony...that's quite possible. Will having a relationship with Tony is much more unlikely. At this stage in life (hormonal), Will is susceptible to the lure of good sex in a bad relationship, but even more susceptible to good sex in no relationship.

Thanks so much! You make a really good point about the potential for family feuds. Ponder that the Danfields, Grangers, and Crampton-Schluters are all very wealthy and powerful families and are seemingly on a collision course. I would think this would end up being toughest for Wade, who would probably be at the intersection of the three, were I to draw a Venn diagram.

Thanks! Will knows Brad better than anyone, and understands him and how he thinks. He claims to have written him off, but it's more likely that he's really fighting for Brad's soul, at least in his own mind.

Thanks. I try to keep things moving along. ;-)

What an insightful diatribe! Thanks so much for sharing that! I think that Mary Ellen may very well be falling into the same snare that seems to trap her mother. This thought that the plan will leave things as they are supposed to be, and the emotions of those involved will default back to a neutral setting. Conversely, Mary Ellen may be able to deny involvement in this, at least enough that Alex won't hate her, and she may thus be able to achieve her goal. Or maybe she isn't the one who did it?

You do quite well when intoxicated. No surprise there. :-) That's a good point about JJ. He gets swipes for being bitchy, but that's his preferred reaction to things as opposed to Will's more histrionic outbursts.

That's an interesting point. I wonder if this isn't just like Pearl Harbor, with a wonderful strategic first attack followed by the wrath of an aroused giant. Aroused giant. heheheheh.

Thanks Gary. Daventry represents, in my mind, the quintessential dandy. He's cultured, witty and humorous, but in Daventry's case, seems quite principled.
-
I'm glad you like our new viscount! We'll keep him around, probably. :-)
-
Thanks Kevin! I think that Daventry and Granger have personal styles that normally complement each other, as opposed to Granger and Mornington, who did not. I think that the Guild will have an interesting time piecing what really happened together, but you're right in that Elgin may have some suspicions. And I think that once they figure things out, Jardines is probably safe only so long as he stays on Tenedos.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! We'll find out more details in Chapter 35. I'm not sure if the issue with George and Caroline is one of other partners, rather, I think it's one where George has adjusted his view of their partnership. It's as if, in his mind, he and Caroline both turned 50, and now they're simply business and political partners. We'll see how that ends up.

January 1, 1800 HMS Valiant The Aegean Sea “Before we discuss these matters, there are a few things I must attend to,” Granger said. “Indeed? I will be interested to see what is more important than our discussion,” Daventry said with mild annoyance. “Arranging quarters for you, attending to your staff, and making sure we are on the correct course, all demand timely attention,” Granger said. “You may relax here, or you may join me, as you see f

Thanks Gary. Daventry is a bit of an enigma, since we don't know much about him yet, but at least he should give Granger some of that stimulating company that he thrives on. How stimulating that turns out to be remains to be seen. :-)

I wonder if George has internalized Cavendish's words when they first went up against the Guild (St. Vincent). He advised Granger that this wasn't a group you could vanquish, one that you could only hope to remain strong enough so they wouldn't be tempted to assail you.
-
I try to keep things different. :-) I think George is quite happy with his sword, but it's always nice to have friends with cloaks and daggers.
-
Thank you! I think that you made the most important points about Daventry, and that is that he and Granger already know each other, and there appears to be a high level of trust already between them.

I'm so glad you liked the historical differentiation of fop and dandy. Wiki "Macaroni" in the fop context and you'll see some interesting photos. :-)
