Just finished Michael Lewis' The Big Short (Makes me want to finish my story "the big Squeeze", I started my story before he published, too) I like the book's approach to a complex subject like collateralize debt obligation and credit default swaps down to the bad mortgage products of commercial lenders. Out of all the books out there, I would say it is the easiest book to read on the subject of the 2007-2008 financial crisis. I understand the subject a bit better than most readers, but I still like the interesting history of credit derivative development. Right now, I am reading his next book "Flash Boys", it is actually something I am quite intrigued and have learned a bit from. In essence, I don't think I can ever really invest money in the Stock Market again if what he has said is true about front runners and stock manipulation by the new electronic systems of high frequency traders. I never imagined that 12 milliseconds ()a millisecond is 1/1000th of a second) was so important, even so little advantage can give high frequency traders advanced knowledge of the entire market ahead of other buyers and sellers. Technology has made actual trading an IT game rather than a human experience.

Well, it is progress; 50 years ago, if people saw an interracial couple, they'd be oo'ing and ewwing. Egyptian mythology and Japanese history are usually distinct, but I am breaking old formulas by combining into my master plan and story canvas. Egyptian Civilization is as ancient as Chinese and Indian civilizations, plus we know from real history that they had dealings through trade over thousands of years. As for Japanese history, western historians never really pick up on the fact that Japan is an island nation at the edge of Asia, so how do you imagine it hosting a strong Buddhist influence with such distance? While Buddhism is doctrinally non-violent; its adherents in Asia are not bound by the same rules that "Western New Age" prophets like to re-imagine Buddhism. The history I referred to is part truth and another part probable, like any major infusion of new religious ideas in another nation, Japan had a period of civil war between the old conservative shinto factions and the newer Buddhist groups. As for Chinese playing internal politics, it is not beyond reason or possibility that a few Imperial officials or even an Emperor would have done this (in my story, it was with the aid of highly advanced secret society). The spread of Buddhism into Korea and Japan was hastened by Chinese missionaries. While most writers play it safe by writing one group, one hero, one storyline within a plot; I think it leaves readers with an incomplete picture, an incomplete world. Additionally, I am adding in the concept of Life Energy Trading, or in essence, in my world there is a secret system of deals being made for the life force of human beings. It is the basis of more advanced technology, a type of nutrition for ghosts, and allows "vampires" to live longer than the normal human lifespan at a cost. To that last point, yes, I have introduced vampires, but my vampires are less fantasy/Twillight based beings, instead they are scientific tragic monsters. I will make it clear now, if it was not clear before in my story, Vampires in my universe are an allusion to the drug trade of the modern world and how interconnected it is to all of our lives in small ways and big. They're need to feed and sustaining themselves is like a need of a crack addict for another hit to remain stable. Story-wise, I know my pacing is really slow, sorry about that, my grandmother's fall has thrown me back by a few months. I will endeavor to be faster on finishing the first case of my story. <Looks over at the multitudes of coming out stories and gay cliches> Probably never Literary archetypes change all the time, but the basic story theme do not need to change. Look at modern fiction, TV shows like "StarCrossed" came from Romeo and Juliet, which in turn was inspired by Tristan and Isolde....every generation still likes the basic premise of lovers that can never get a break. Batman is a story that can be traced back to Chivalric knights of Goeffrey, people like the idea that tragedy can inspire people to greater good and batman's miniker as the "Dark Knight" is not only appropriate for his literary origins, but il's his basic character. Still, every writers greatest aspiration should be to break with established stories and write something unique that spawns creation in its wake, basically to be "original".

As I was reading a most unremarkable story from CNN's front pages today, I thought about someone that I had long since forgotten. He was an unspectacular boy, born of a middle class family with some questionable genealogy due to his mother. Overall, he was a good guy; did well in school, hung out with a few Asian cliques (he probably rubbed off some ideas from them), and just treated everyone with respect. As he grew older, he got wilder ideas about life and society. He hated how rich people had so much power over the poor. He thought religious nutjobs were more interested in being wealthy and powerful rather than seeking to give people faith in a better world. He thought the government could also use some reform and maybe less foreign wars. He started hanging out with a bunch of guys like himself and just exchanged some ideas about the world. People thought he was out there, they thought he was bordering on treason, he should find a nice job and a girlfriend to marry, and just give this peace and goodwill stuff a rest. The boy I was thinking of was....Yes, Jesus, weirdly enough. I was just reading another story about some idiots with bigoted ideas about keeping their faith in Christ, in the Bible, and in their faith. Yet, as I read their rationale for being anti-gay, I could not help, but thinkink of Jesus as a young adult and an adult growing up in a world just like ours. Except nowadays, it is not the Jewish religious elders or Romans governors, but we have people speaking on his behalf (so they say, but I bet you he could have cared less for the "Good book" and more for the reason behind it) that use their positions to spread bigotry in order to remain in power and politicians with banners as insidious as Caesar or Pompey, who will never rest until they finish their great game of political infighting. I know as a Christian, I probably suck, but I don't believe that pomp or rhetoric is what we should live for or die by, in the case of bigots and hate-mongers taking such views to extremes. I can only hope that my version of Jesus is far more factual than the one that a majority of people in the world "needs" to believe rather than "wants" to believe in. Faith should never be a necessity for the faithful. Well that's my weird blog

For those of you who are not diehard fanboys of the Batman universe, it's still a gritty crime/detective TV show. For fans of the campy Batman (I am looking at several members here ), sorry to bust your bubble, this is going to be a drama, not a comedy show. I see this as a logical challenge from Fox to go against CW's "Arrow" and "Smallville" franchises, plus it will pit Batman universe againstthe new "Flash" series on CW. As an origin story, we know Batman's story; we know Bruce Wayne's tragedy. That stuff is easy writing material that many fan fiction writers understand. However, I always thought the origin of the villains were just as interesting, especially with the Batman Animated Series from Bruce Timm in the 90's. For instance, Mr. Frieze was a real human being, brought down by a tragedy of his wife's illness, compounded by corporate greed (at least in the way the Animated series wrote him) Still, I want to see some Batman origins as well. The world's greatest detective needs to grow from a traumatized kid to an anti-hero that we can relate to. So what do you guys want to see in this series? Should it be structured like Smallville, until the kid grows up and dons the cape and cowl? Should this just be a Batman story or a DC story? (Batman has always been a loner, which suits me just fine, but I have no issue with him facing off against Supes )

Darn, I thought I had the gay story market on this discovery (However, I would also like to point out that cellular degeneration would mean that even these vampires will eventually die, so they are not immortals) You know what would be interesting is if we can extract the very essence of life itself, not just blood transfusion, from human beings. Imagine without moral implications, if you could take the life force of a child born in a third world country and make it your own (adding 50-60 years of potential lifespan), or the life of a homeless indigent in the US. Who would notice the disappearance of one of these "unnoticed" people? Human beings imagine ourselves to be at the top of the natural order, but what if we merely become our own natural resource to be exploited? Morality keeps us from going that far, but what if the rules of scientific ethics and human morality did not apply? That's where I am writing as Kitt can attest

Well, the difference is whether they had IPods in elementary school or junior/high school. Seriously, growing up with the internet on 56k modems is different than growing up on broadband and cable. I think that helps define the difference in generations as well. Remember the old days, when we had to wait a minute for a page to load or when downloading a file takes hours instead of minutes or seconds. Still, we're better off and much easier to connect to Tet's group. I still think of them as part of our generation; just a more easily distracted, loud, and ADHD prone variant (Nothing wrong with that tho)

I was 15 going onto 16 in June. Damn, I love this idea; it's like our generation's version of Forrest Gump; shrunk down and sped up. The last two decades have seen a lot of changes, some good and some bad.

Makes me sad; I heard of the floating bodies trapped inside their cabins. Also, the news is that the Captain and Crew are likely to face criminal negligence charges, not murder or manslaughter. Personally, I think it's a disgraceful act for a captain to not first attempt to save the passengers or at least allow them to reach the upper deck, so they can try to swim, prior to departing the ship. To not aid passengers, who place their lives and futures in your hand, many of whom were high school students, it says a lot about a person. Another important piece of news is a rumor I heard from Chinese news that the ship had been operating under the specified regulated amount of lifeboats and had gone over their total allowed tonnage. Not sure how much of that is true, I would be really surprise to hear that any dock inspector would allow any ship to set sail under such conditions.
