I realize most people don’t pay that much attention to those sorts of details when they’re more worried about Troy’s condition, but he is a notoriously trendy dresser. [rant] Abortion shouldn’t be used as a form of contraception, but it is a legal option that should be considered. Adoption is another option, especially since these parents are white and not drug users – being realistic, a white infant has a much better chance of adoption than one who is of color. Most parents who are currently dealing with a sixteen-year-old are not prepared to take care of an infant, an option much more common in communities of color. There are too many religious institutions that would rather saddle teenagers with a lifetime of poverty than allow realistic and considered decisions. Most of those groups who oppose choice are populated by people who have not adopted multiple drug-addicted or disabled children. They don’t practice what they preach! And they vote to oppose social services to assist the needy. They force people into no-win situations while hypocritically condemning them for their decisions. Riding on transit, I see many young mothers who should never have been allowed to raise children. They don’t have the experience or training to handle an infant or child. in many cases, they are themselves the child of a similar single mother. They don’t have good role models to follow and there isn’t anyone to teach them better strategies. While I do see young fathers on occasion, they often appear to be weekend daddies rather than an everyday influence on their children. Staying in homeless shelters, I came in contact with young ‘men’ who bragged about their multiple baby mamas and numerous children. But, clearly since they were staying in shelters, they didn’t have the resources to take care of their children – often paying no child-support while searching for their next baby mama victim. Legally, there are no requirements for castration or even vasectomies for irresponsible serial sperm donors. (Now that would be an interesting debate in Congress!) In my city, there aren’t enough jobs for qualified applicants. A sixteen-year-old high school drop-out has too much competition for entry-level jobs among just the high school drop-outs! There are college educated people who cannot find jobs in their fields or due to agism, sexism, racism, or other biases! Even if they qualify for government assistance, it keeps you below the poverty-line and there are gaps that prevent you from being covered while you transition out of assistance – intentionally designed catch-22s to trap people in poverty so others can have unnecessary tax cuts. Yeah, the library was the last place anyone would expect Devin to be! As Kevin and Cameron discovered, there aren’t many places where a teenager can be during school hours without being harassed. I’m surprised he wasn’t confronted at the library too. ;-)

Caustic Castaic, like Gorman, is just another sign you pass on I-5 as you escape Los Angeles. ;-) Stupid autocorrect! I might be caustic and sarcastic, but Castaic really is just a name on a freeway sign to me! It’s part of the Tejon Pass section of I-5, the area that gets shutdown by the CHP whenever there’s an inch or so of snow since drivers typically do not carry tire chains along this route and it’s a heavily trafficked route between the LA basin and the northern two-thirds of the state. Lots of semis. The pass peaks at 4,144 feet/1,263 m. A nearby rail route out of the Central Valley relies on the Tehachapi Loop in order to gain the altitude necessary to get over the Transverse Range through the Tehachapi Pass. But rather than connecting more directly with the LA basin through the Santa Clarita Valley (Magic Mountain) like I-5, the Tehachapi Pass leads to the Mojave Desert. The Cajon Pass is used by the railroads to connect the Mojave Desert and San Bernardino area east of Los Angeles. I-15 uses the nearby Cajon Summit to connect Las Vegas (and north to Alberta) with San Bernardino and San Diego.

Teenaged girls are notoriously irregular. If Ashley is lucky, her cycle will restart after a little hiccup. Those tests aren’t 1000% accurate either. If Ashley is incredibly lucky, both indications will be wrong. It should be a lesson to Ashley and all her friends, but kids are kids and they don’t think it will happen to them! Ashley didn’t listen to Sherri's advice earlier and look what happened!

Oh, I forgot! Yesterday was April 15th, so I wanted to share music meant to be played on this date. McNair's performance of Alla selva positively bristles with the joy to see the end of cabin fever. Do Makarovian Royals support charities like the Windsors and Wales do? I know they already do the Christmas things. But as Makarovia grows, it’ll be less like a large family and there will need to be groups set up to do some of the things that were done informally. And there are also international groups, like World Wildlife Foundation and anti-landmine groups, that get (British) Royal support… ;-) It might be time for Prince Petro and soon-to-be Prince Eric to leverage their celebrity and lend their names in support of other causes! ;-)

My dad used to fly into Hollywood Burbank, it was closer to downtown LA than LAX – and much less congested! I see that they have a rail connection to downtown LA too, unlike any of the other airports in the area (in the Bay Area, both SFO and OAK have BART connections, and San José is getting one eventually). BUR has also been known as Bob Hope Airport. ;–)
