Vasectomies only affect fertility, orchiectomies affect hormones in addition. ;–)

Yes, I avoided The WB with its silly frog mascot. I only watched its competitor/eventual merger partner UPN because of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise. I don’t watch anything on their successor, The CW. ;–)

Jake’s best friend is Danny. Danny like boys. Danny like girls. Danny likes boys and girls. Ryan is Jake’s friend. Danny is Jake’s friend. Maybe Ryan and Jake can be friends too. Jake is happy. Ryan is happy. Danny is happy. Jake, Ryan, and Danny are happy. Jake, Ryan, and Danny are happy together.

You want Jake to realize that he hates that ugly flap of skin hanging between his legs? That he wishes he had big pillowy cushions attached to his very flat chest? That he wishes he could have babies with Ryan (and Danny)? That would be a radical ‘fix.’ Adjusting the trajectory of Jake’s story arc at this point while still being true to all the characters would be a feat that would make ‘Harrisizing’ look like a Dick & Jane story! ;–) This is Jake. Jake likes to run. See Jake run. Run, Jake, run. Jake has a friend. Ryan is Jake’s friend. Jake is Ryan’s friend. Jake and Ryan are friends. Jake wants to be a girl. Jake is sad. Jake doesn’t like being a boy. Ryan is confused. Ryan is sad. Ryan doesn’t want Jake to be sad.

    Chapter 12

Naturally, just as ‘Chavindar’ is going to call his husband and friends, the power and telephone lines are cut! If this were a teenage scary movie, they’d be getting naked now. Then they’d split up to find out why the lines were cut. A sudden, unexpected lightning and thunder storm would periodically light up the scene so we could see flashes of naked flesh as everyone was exploring. One or more couples would take the opportunity to sneak off to have sex. ;–) Since the acolytes only wear robes with no shoes or underwear, it’ll be easy to get naked. So their robes don’t get wet or dirty. Or some other not-quite-logical reason… ;–)

    Chapter 11

So the acolytes were a step ahead of where I thought they’d be! But my guess about the use of the razor & shaving cream was right. The disguise makes more sense now. Except for his bald head, Justin’s look was very popular in Germany a few years ago… ;–) I don’t remember my Rothenian geography very well. Are Josseran’s forces and the Rothenian troops in the same mountains? Is the action going to be taking place in one area, or all over the country?

  13. I’m not a fan of country music, but I did have the …In the Life of Chris Gaines CD (1999). Back before I was homeless, I had something like 600 CDs, most of which were from the Seventies, Eighties, and Nineties. I had a few from the Sixties (like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and Simon & Garfunkel). And a handful of newer ones. ;–)

    Casualties

In California, many front yards have drought-friendly landscaping that replaces the thirsty, high-maintenance grass lawn with plants native to Mediterranean climates. Modern low-water gardens have almost nothing in common with the colored gravel wastelands of the Sixties and Seventies. Cactuses and other succulents are not the only dry climate plants out there. Landscaping should reflect the local climate instead of tropical fantasies.

    Chapter 10

Were Prema and Vedayah too late to put their plans into effect? My impression was that they were trying to catch Justin at the plant. Do they have a Plan B?

    Chapter 10

Only little kids and chicken hawks think it’s a good idea to ‘declare war on somewhere wiv a small army, and beat the crap out of ‘em. Sorta like an exercise.’ :–(
  17. I’m angry, but not at all surprised that Jacob and Danny had sex again. The two boys have never really fully resolved their relationship. Whenever one of them feels comfortable with the situation, the other is unhappy. I realize we’re talking about teenagers who don’t have the experience and perspective to understand what a mess they’re creating. This won’t just affect the band, it’ll affect football too!
  18. Anger management, financial budgeting, grocery shopping lists and basic cooking skills, the list goes on and on. Schools are being forced to teach these subjects because parents are too busy to teach them. Or maybe their parents never learned these skills themselves? (In Brett’s case, his mother was just a run of the mill bad parent.)
  19. Not many kids could get away with saying something like that to their own mother. Especially in reference to their own father! (But I’m not sure she disagrees with him even though she has to act shocked and disturbed.) ;–) I can see why Danny is so riveted by this description. I’m sure he can see Jacob and Dustin as ‘Christine’! But would Billy appreciate being called ‘Christine’? ;–)

Did Mon City expand to incorporate Donora? That doesn’t happen in California very often anymore. Los Angeles, San Diego, and San José all grew in the past by swallowing up their smaller neighbors as well as allowing large numbers of suburban developments. Of course, California’s cities are not typically reliant on a single industry and have not experienced the economic devastation that hit the Rust Belt, although my own city has never really recovered from the shutdown of the dry-docks that built the WWII Victory Ships.

It’s amazing how universal that discrepancy in the state of the roads is. Even when those neighborhoods are parts of the same city, wealthier and more exclusive neighborhoods get better service than their less well-off neighbors. More frequent and more comprehensive road repairs. Better transit service. Better law enforcement service. Better schools, parks, and better branch libraries. Certainly some of that is residual effects of newer development. But much of it is related to political influence (typically higher voting rates and much deeper pockets). In my city, all of the city council seats are at-large and all of the council members live in a single, exclusive neighborhood next to the Bay!

The double standard would give the girls bad reputations, Danny’s reputation would improve if he’s seen as a player.
