  3. There are all sorts of seaweed. The most commonly eaten in North America is probably Nori, because it’s used in Sushi. It’s a dried sheet of one variety of seaweed. Many people are eating it as a snack on its own. Quite often it’s flavored with soy sauce (‘teriyaki flavor’). When used in a salad, it’s usually cut into strips or crumbled. But there are other varieties used as well (there are apparently seven named varieties in Japan that are eaten as food). Seaweed is eaten as food in places like Ireland, Wales, and coastal South West England (and the Maritime Provinces); Iceland and western Norway; the Atlantic coast of France; Chile and Peru; as well as East and Southeast Asia. Seaweed is a collective name for aquatic plant-like algae. There are varieties used as food additives and in medicines. Adding seaweed to livestock feed reduces methane emissions from cattle! (Hey Mike! Does Tim need to reduce his methane emissions?) ;–)

Hey, if some can claim that criminal acts they committed in their thirties are ‘youthful indiscretions,’ Harlan is entitled to reinvent himself. With the blessing of his Don, of course.

I’m wondering how long it will be before Rogers announces he needs to resign from his role as minister at his church (or even from the ministry entirely) due to ‘family commitments’ and leave town.
  6. Unlike N’than, I’d have no problem with the seaweed. Back in the Sixties, when I lived in Hawaii (and the ocean water was less polluted), family friends would feed me seaweed fresh out of the ocean. I vaguely remember it being crunchy and salty, but not much more (hey it was like 55 years ago!). On the other hand, I don’t eat seafood, so slimy oysters would not be appealing at all. I’m surprised that raw fish was not part of the meal as well… ;–)

    Chapter 33

It is a good move so sad I think that it is so hard to bring this story to a conclusion.

That’s a major disadvantage to living alone. I’d ask my ex for his HBO account number (because they were quoted as not having a problem with people sharing them in the context of Game of Thrones), but he’s too afraid of getting in trouble so he’d never do it. ;–) But I do manage to ‘acquire’ what I want to watch… ;–)

Somehow I’m sure Harlan’s Don will give his blessing. Gary might struggle a little. But Bailey should win him over quickly! ;–)

All I know about the show is the screen caps of the protagonist, naked at an outdoor party. The show debuted on Fox, but after it was cancelled, Netflix picked it up. Obviously, the naked scenes were after the show switched from broadcast TV. (I knew the show seemed more familiar to me than a Netflix series would usually be since I cannot afford cable, satellite, or any streaming services.) I wish I could take advantage of the fact that relatives work for Amazon, Netflix, and Adobe, but my cousin, my nephew’s wife, or my niece (respectively) have never offered to share any of their benefits with me. Even though my younger brother works for a major oil company, I never got a discount on gas at their gas stations. My mother used to love using my discount when I worked for a department store in the Eighties. But she always wished one of us to worked for an airline so she could travel cheaply (none of us ever did). ;–)

    The Devil

I think the world would be better if a Harlan made quick visits to those who are causing the problems. It’s likely that they have a pattern that needs to be broken. A few tweaks and many peoples’ problems are fixed all at once! ;–) I think finding out that he had sent his son(s) to a conversion camp wouldn’t have been a clichéd as finding out that he was dealing with internal homophobia. It would have been something he could have told Huck to prove his sincerity.

I’m wondering if the evil Rogers wrote a check to a conversion camp for one or both of his own sons. I don’t think Gay porn sites accept checks. I cannot imagine Berkeley’s Steamworks bathhouse does either. A male escort probably wouldn’t take a check and wouldn’t likely be instantly obvious. I’m not sure what other things would be incriminating… ;–)

Interesting that Harlan contacts a woman in Sicily who knows ASL (American Sign Language). I would expect someone from Sicily to be familiar with ISL (Italian Sign Language). ASL is not a universal sign language. ASL is not even the only sign language used in the US. ;–)
  17. It’s good to see that Gary is doing well enough now to not only return to working in his store, but also move heavy ceramics around! ;–)
  18. (Yes, I know I’m not really quoting you.) Maybe you can borrow a few characters from @Timothy M. and @aditus for a Cupid crossover… ;–)

    Chapter 24

I think continuity is difficult to achieve in a story written on the fly like this one. I think Ronyx usually completes the story before he posts it. Rereading and editing is also usually done before he posts. You’d make a good beta reader! ;–)

    Chapter 24

I think the trauma of Jack breaking his arm again has caused his mother to accelerate her contemplation about Jack and his orientation. She is beginning to realize that her previous angry reaction was tearing her family apart and pushing everyone away from her. She was the one destroying her family. And it was her attitude that was causing the most damage. Not the fact that Jack is Gay.
  21. I've been listening to a lot of Zipoli these last few days. All the soloists in this performance are wonderful, but the cello almost enters as if tears are falling...
  22. Since I wasn’t able to find an older Topic in my quick skim through the Lounge, I decided to create a new one! So I looked up ‘Norwegian birthday’ and this was one of the images that came up – I think it’s more a Norwegian Independence Day thing, but… ;–)

  24. I have mixed feelings, but you are one of the positive reasons I return. ;–)
  25. I wasn’t suggesting that you are cutting down a larger piece. It’s more like you’re giving us just a glimpse of what your characters are experiencing. A bit like the grand promise of Star Wars: A New Hope (before the limitations of George Lucas’ storytelling abilities became apparent with the first Trilogy) or the glorious adventure in Raiders of the Lost Arc (before George tried to milk the franchise one too many times).
