Soaps are not a genre that I have much familiarity with. I used to watch Soap (with Billy Crystal’s Jodie Dallas, one of the first major regular Gay characters on US series TV*), Eastenders (in the Eighties), and original Melrose Place (because of Doug Savant’s Matt Fielding (aka the Gay doormat who only reacted to the drama around him and never seemed to have a life of his own). But I never watched any of the popular nighttime soap operas like Dallas, Knots Landing, or Dynasty.
* Jodie had a closeted football quarterback boyfriend and at one point was contemplating gender-reassignment surgery. He fathered a daughter with a woman he married and was involved in a custody battle over her. Advertiser pressure prevented any PDAs with his boyfriend.
