  1. I’m sure I’d feel more comfortable with Jimmy/James. I have so much more in common with him. I’m afraid that the name thing is an indication that Tristian is trying to remake his boyfriend into someone more acceptable to his family. I don’t have a lot of sympathy for Tristian. But Clause 28 (1988) proves that homophobia was common during that era. 1988 also was the year Ian McKellen Came Out.
  2. 1965 Bentley Continental. 1979-1990 the evil witch was PM. So, now we have our perimeters. Unless we’re dealing with time travel. But it’s unlikely that either Mark or Carol Thatcher will ever follow in the shrew’s footsteps.
  3. Oh boy! This get more gloriously delicious the more Trout steps into… um ‘solid waste.’ It’s almost as if Trout’s goal is to create chaos for himself! ;–) Can we see Tommy meet the relentless cousin or the elderly Aunt, please? ;–)

    Family Matters

I love Clara! One advantage to not having a partner/boyfriend/husband is that I have fewer in-laws to deal with. I liked my sisters-in-law’s families, but now that my nieces and nephews are all adults, I never see their other relatives. And since my younger brother and his wife are separated (even though he’s actually never told me), I never see her or my younger niece and nephew either. Families are fun! ;–) I never thought Garrison was particularly smart, just relentless and annoying. ;–)

Just take your sharpie and close the upper half of the 6 on the screen to change them into 8s! ;–)

    Chapter 1

Since this is set in North America, it’s a bit odd that they are 16 and in college. They’d still be in high school unless they both skipped a couple grades and entered college early. I think this is a Britishism sneaking past your usually careful filtering. ;–) It’s great that while there are varied reaction to the kiss, there is no overt hostility to what happened. I’m sure it still takes tremendous courage to be so open at school, even with a strict non-discrimination policy. LGBTQ+ students still get bullied even in the most progressive areas, but it’s more subtle and anonymous than it used to be (often online). Still, things are much better than when I was a teenager in the Seventies. ;–)

    Chapter 58

I’m no accountant, but LIFO means ‘Last In, First Out.’ Because of inflation, older pieces of stock are nearly always cheaper than their replacements. By using LIFO, the value or ‘cost’ of your stock is lower and you appear to be more profitable than using FIFO. It’s an accounting trick, a fiction that businesses use to look better than they actually are. LIFO is allowed in the US, but banned internationally. What you meant was LILO.

    Chapter 15

Under Zero-Tolerance Policies, everyone involved gets punished when someone starts a fight, regardless of fault or severity. There is little evidence that they are effective. And they result in more people being punished. An instigator can cause extreme consequences for a targeted person if they manipulate the system correctly (a series of multiple people triggering a single person would likely get mild punishments while the target gets increasingly severe punishments). Fortunately, Mrs Armstrong's wording suggests that her school does not have mandatory punishments. It sounds like she has at least some discretion to decide what to do. In any case, it’s likely that Jack thinks that the worst punishment has just entered… ;–)

  16. Will Donald be signing to himself in mirrors when he’s all alone in that big house? Maybe it works that way in real life, but few Gay fiction authors resist that temptation! ;–)
  17. I’m sure my younger brother believed he was dispensing great, much-needed advice to a stubborn, overly-emotional older brother, but it was very unwelcome by his older brother who didn’t feel overly-emotional at all! ;–)
  18. Because there were many independent creators of the various sign languages. ASL is not a sign version of American English, it is its own language with a separate syntax and grammar.

    Chapter 57

My browser, word processor, and text editor all highlight an assumed error with colored underlining. In some cases, the word will be ‘corrected’ without my intervention. But that only happens with single words, not sentences or paragraphs!
