    Scars

It was good for Jeremy to actually talk about feeling guilty for ‘letting’ his father die. Having Mason point out that it wasn’t his fault and that his father was destined to have died in that manner regardless of what Jeremy did. Having a third party give him a different view of the circumstances was critical. After that drama, it was amusing to have Greg and Clay arguing about how to prepare the steaks! ;–)

It’s possible for Jeremy to partially or conditionally accept Clay’s apology – for Mason’s sake. Kind of a compromise between the two extremes. (One that doesn’t really satisfy either side?) ;–)

I’m glad that (apparently) that hasn’t happened in the past and I hope it doesn’t happen in the future – for either you, or for Jeremy. I wonder how many suicides are precipitated by similar things that the speaker said in (innocent) ignorance…
  4. Barry Manilow wrote Could It Be Magic. It was unintentionally based on Chopin’s Prelude in C Minor, Opus 28, Number 20, but he has acknowledged the fact. It was recorded by Donna Summer. Ironically, Barry didn’t write I Write the Songs – Bruce Johnson of the Beach Boys did. ;–)
  5. I like it, but I think I’m older than most HoJo fans and enjoyed the original too.
  6. Howard Jones covered Steely Dan’s I.G.Y., but Howard’s clueless fans think he wrote it, does that count? ;–)

    Chapter 39

Dimitri is holding it for safekeeping. Dimitri said you’d be okay with that. But I’m not sure where Dimitri went, he was just here… ;–)
  8. As you can see in the column to the right, Charlie Boone usually celebrates several (US) holidays throughout the year. Despite my suggestions for such major holidays as Lunar New Year and Harvey Milk Day, the muses have refused to cooperate. Charlie, Kippy, Ricky, and Adrian are usually joined by an ever larger cast of friends in their adventures. The location and situations change with every adventure. The recurring cast of friends vary by story. But you’ll have fun reading each and every Charlie Boone story. Geron guaranties it. (What? You think I’m going to make promises I can’t keep?) ;–)

Congratulations, Prince Eric of Charleston! You’ve finally married off the Earl of Styria to Prince Pedro. All of Makarovia celebrates the Royal Wedding. ;–)

    Part 1

The Canadian flag does not include a Union Jack in the upper left quadrant like fellow Commonwealth members, Australia and New Zealand. In honor of James Cook’s ‘discovery’ of the former Royal Kingdom by a European, the Hawaiian flag incorporates a Union Jack – the white, red, and blue stripes represent the eight major islands. Captain Cook, Hawaii was named after a coffee company by that name that was located there within the Kona Coffee growing area. The community is near where Cook was killed for attempting to kidnap the King of Hawaii. There is even less British influence in Hawaii than in British Columbia. The British, French, and US governments all officially recognized the Royal Kingdom of Hawaii, but that didn’t prevent each of the three from meddling. And neither France, nor Britain intervened when US and European immigrants revolted against the legitimate government with the illegal assistance of the US military. ;–)

    Part 1

I always think it’s funny how many British foods never made it across the Atlantic to become common foods in the US. I’ve certainly heard of steak and kidney pie, but have no interest in tasting it – when I was growing up, my mother thought it was important for us to eat liver regularly, but in the Seventies, reports started coming out about the inadvisability of eating one of the filter organs and she stopped making it. Considering the percentage of people who claim English ancestry, we eat a relatively small percentage of foods that are specific to the Brits. Apparently, even English immigrants to the US abandoned native British foods (including mushy peas and warm beer) in favor of the foods their neighbors were eating. And living on the Pacific Coast, my diet is probably much more influenced by Asian, Pacific, and Hispanic cuisines than, say, New England, the Mid-Atlantic region, or the Midwest. Southerners might not want to acknowledge it, but many of their foods are influenced by Caribbean and African sources. New Orleans was colonized by the French. Spain colonized Florida and Texas and there are remnants of that influence remaining. I remember reading that the creators of boxed cake mixes could have included powdered eggs in the box, but the act of adding fresh eggs made the cook feel like they were actually baking a cake rather than merely reconstituting a factory-prepared concoction. ;–)

Younger people and members of many disadvantaged groups might be able to identify with someone who speaks their salty language. I’m sure he’ll avoid the sacrilegious swear words. The sexually obscene and scatological words are frowned upon by the devoutly religious, but I doubt there are any actual prohibitions against them in their fairytale book. (Of course, they ignore actual prohibitions [that appear in a part of their fairytale book that was superseded by the later section] against charging interest and eating certain foods, among other things.)

Just because Eddie and Matty go to different schools (and it’d probably be healthier for their relationship for them to get a chance to grow as individuals for a few years) doesn’t mean they have to be too far apart. It’s always possible for the two schools to be close enough to each other for the boys to visit each other frequently – or even live together! Many seminarians graduate from a regular college before they attend a seminary (I know my dad went to both types of schools, but I don’t know if he got a degree before he attended seminary – I do know he never went for a doctorate though). ;–)

What did Jeremy’s father do to him that he’s been so damaged? That seems to be the root of Jeremy’s insecurities and lack of self-confidence. Will psychologist-to-be Orson be able to help to begin undoing the damage? ;–)

  19. So far, Jett hasn’t done any hugs. (Manipulating April’s penis doesn’t count as a ‘hug.’) And yet there have been two kisses (and counting). ;–)
  20. I think Jett would date a Transgendered individual. He doesn’t seem to be as fixated with gender and gender presentation as most of us are. Jet claims to be straight, but he’s clearly not a Kinsey Zero. He’s somewhere in the middle of several other Scales too. ;–)
