I did consider having an over-reaction by the Council or Jarra - which could have led to interesting complications in World opinion and contention with the Corporations and Directed nations - but, as you point out, Baradin and Jarra have always been thoughtful and sensible.

Yes, I had to think hard about the response and I felt it was Jarra's nature to do something thoughtful but extremely significant. - in effect he's sidelined for many years the part the Directed Nations will have in the great changes ahead.

Well, it's already been said but it was the stand out part of the chapter for me - the three (four really) photos. Like the images appearing in developer, each one took shape in my mind as your words and phrases fixed the detail. I enjoyed the evocative feeling of the barn being a special world and my favorite statement was 'Fetch the hose. There's a raging inferno in here.

Congrats on all your achievements JC. Wow! Your life sounds both full and full on. I'm saying this from a distance where it's easy to suggest that letting one idiot get under your skin is not worth the stress and energy involved. From what you say you have the confidence of a job well done. Use that as your buffer against petty, stupid behaviour. If the bullying (that's what it sounds like) continues then don't wait but get out of the company straight away. Spread the word to all the people who've worked happily with you as to why so they know the real situation. You didn't sign on for stress and unhappiness (lol - maybe for a happy kind of stress). Another context meaning for 'bike' - here in Aus. if we say 'Get on your bike' it can mean 'Go away, you're not wanted'.

Brian, I'm sorry to hear that I upset you with the death of Barega in the latest chapter of Mparntwe. It was the first time I've attempted to treat sadness at the death of a major character in any of my stories so it was hard for me too. As part of the plot line I have in mind for the Diaspora, I knew before I even started Mparntwe that Akama's brother would die. I did try to put more of the focus on Akama but I also needed to show their relationship and make Barega real in reader's minds. The full reasons for this sad event won't be developed in Mparntwe. That will have to wait for a different story in the series. Palantir
