Ricky, thanks for starting this topic. It gives recognition where recognition is due. As far as I'm concerned, if all the work and time that goes into GA helps just one young person with developing confidence, self-esteem, understanding of themself etc, then GA has something to be proud of. That kind of help is an enriching gift which lasts a lifetime. I'm not really limiting that to just young people. I'm thinking back to the pre-internet days when people with questions about themselves had nowhere to go for understanding and support and young people in particular were bound by the ways of their local culture. Beyond the helping of people with reading and writing, this avenue of communication and nurture is a special service provided by GA.

Tarheel Writer, or Jevic as his latest nic seems to be, has been active in the gay story world for at least 6 or 7 years that I know of. He has his own website (linked through his member page as Cia has pointed out) where more of his stories can be found as well as stories of several authors he hosts. He also has a long standing set of recommended stories with his own description and links. I found out about the legendary 'Grasshopper' through this set of recommendations

Mighty Mouse was the greatest!!! - and the Phantom. I still quite enjoy reading a Phantom comic on the odd occasion - haven't even seen a Mighty Mouse comic for decades- maybe they don't exist any more.

Well, I think there is no definitive answer to this question. It's very much one of those subjective things and is different for each person. It varies with mood, situation, age - any factor which has an influence on perception. Even having a personal set of criteria isn't reliable as you can walk round a corner (figuratively speaking) and there is someone who totally wows you and they don't fit any of those criteria.

Hi there Comicfan, I enjoyed reading this first chapter of your story. On the surface Charlie seems a wimp. You made me feel as if he'd had some sort of emotional trauma which left him lacking in esteem. Tina comes across as a real jerk. I loved the atmosphere you created in the last scene with the mixture of storm and loneliness.

Lol, I think I'll probably be blown to bits for saying this - there is a lot of beat up with this topic. I might be wrong but reading through the posts I understand that the Nifty Archivist changed the title without asking. Riley objected and after some discussion the story was withdrawn from Nifty. In my view that change without discussion was not right, but after that everything went the way it should. Riley didn't accept the change which is absolutely his right. The title is part of the story and hence under copyright (as long as he claimed it) and that makes it his decision and his alone to make any change. The Nifty Archivist wanted a change and as the owner of the site he maintains the right to accept or reject any story regardless of whether it fits the submission guidelines. Whether anyone agrees with his reasons for wanting a change (or not) is irrelevant. After some discussion both Riley and the Nifty Archivist held to their respective positions without compromise and the story was withdrawn. Riley has his story as HIS story, no unwanted changes. The Nifty Archivist has his archive the way he wants it. The Nifty Archive is extremely different to GA with VERYdifferent purposes and an apt cliche is 'comparisons are odious'. I would rather look at the varying benefits each offers. A number of GA authors have given recognition for the part Nifty played in their development and I do likewise. On a personal level I have to say that I've only experienced the Nifty Archivist as being helpful, friendly and respectful.

Thanks so much for your thoughts fmd. Hearing other people's ideas and perspectives is great. Your comment about the 'implied sexual activity' was especially interesting for me as DTT is my first story where I consciously used it as an overall technique. Plausibility? Well, I have to say that there is absolutely no correlation between the real world and the world of the story - it's pure fiction. Lol. The goings on in the change room alone would be totally unacceptable in any school or community. And so many hot gay guys all interested in the main character?- pure fantasy. Andy/Andrew- well that was a bit of a tidy up in the last chapter. There was a hint in the interview section that Andrew was gay and he definitely showed interest in Andy (not physical) when he realised more and more how much he'd misjudged him. The age difference is 4 or 5 yrs. Oh my! Yes there could be more written - I did have a number of ideas but the story was already 38 chapters. Once again, thanks fmd, hearing that someone got pleasure from the story is a great feeling.

Heart wrenching! Sixty something people known to have died and this is only the start of the searching. This is the second major earthquake in only 5 months with a multitude of aftershocks in between.
