  1. Most little boys REALLY end up with the toys their father would like to play with. After all- who has the debit card? The adult or the 3 year old? It would have never occured to me to play with a Barbie Doll. I wanted to play with my Dad's tank and run over things. Now we're talking!

  3. Vicksburg residents preparing for the Great Flood of 2011 Source Link: WLBT VICKSBURG, MS (WLBT) - City of Vicksburg officials are warning residents to prepare now for historic flood levels. City leaders held a press conference Tuesday morning urging residents to have evacuation plans in place, if their home is in a flood prone area. Waters are rising at up to 2 feet a day in some neighborhoods, and is expected to hold at crest level for up to 10 days. Up to a 1,000 people could be impacted. Some residents spent Tuesday removing items from their homes, including those that are on stilts, over 15 feet in the air. Tim Jones' house is in Vicksburg's flood danger zone. "We moved out yesterday (Monday), I came back this morning (Tuesday) to check on the house and everything and get the dogs," Jones said. "It was back there by my pool and now you see where it is now so its coming on." Vicksburg's mayor is monitoring river levels and flood predictions to allow residents to make the best decisions for themselves and their property. "Making sure that we make everyone aware of what is going on as pertains to the increased flood and elevation levels," Mayor Paul Winfield said. "Based on the predictions of the National Weather Service, we want our residents to be vigilant and make wise decisions." Vicksburg ports and manufacturing companies near the Mississippi River are also expected to face flooding. These are the high water marks of past floods in Vicksburg, MS. 1927 is the worst ever and this year it is expected that it will crest even higher. Roads are already covered with water in neighborhoods north on Highway 61.
  4. This is Freudian theory- strong (dominate) mother, weak, absent father ==> male homosexuality. This has been completely discredited. Many gay males had strong father figures and still turned out gay. Molestation theory- eg. the idea that a male child is molested and turns gay, doesn't work either. Male molestation victims sexuality does not change statistically in numerous large scale studies with large, diverse population samples. They are hetero and homosexual at the same rates. The research seems to indicate that sexuality is set and does not change as early as 3 years old. While environment might play a part in sexuality, it is clear that genetics or pre-natal factors are at play. One of the best theories to emerge in the 2000s is that a big factor in sexual orientation is the balance of hormones at work en utereo. As the fetus develops, the mothers endocrine system releases a mixture of hormones and that mix of hormones has a major effect on the pre-natal development of the child. In any case, the idea that anyone would chose to be gay when it causes so much trouble for them is patently ludicrous. There are plenty of people right here, right now on this board that would be str8 if gay could be beaten out of them, prayed out of them or punished out of them. Those of us that fall into that category find the idea of choice in sexual orientation to be every bit as offensive as racism, Antisemitism or any other form of bigotry rooted in religious fanaticism. The only choice seems to be whether you are out or in the closet.
  5. Consider too- that many of the models for these statues were young teens (11-15). Michaelangelo's David by bone structure, proportion and anatomy could have been no older than 16.
  6. After much study of human sexuality, Kinsey proposed that sexual orientation fell into a continuum. Exclusively heterosexual and homosexual people make up the extremes of the scale where most people fall into the middle. This suggests that bisexuals may have some choice in who they find attractive but purely hetero and homosexual people seem to be hard-wired in their orientation. There is clearly some biological imperative at work in both cases because the behavior is similar, consistent and is highly resistent to change.
  7. This is real messed up and I've never talked about it here. When I was 25 I had a boyfriend that I was crazy about. You know- maybe the one in training. I was fresh out of college and he was still in. He had a little brother that was 6 years younger than him. Eric was 24 and his younger brother Brandon was 18. They looked very much alike and were there was probably only 10 pounds difference in their weight. Eric and Brandon were highly competetive. The three of us used to do a lot of stuff together. We were very closeted in our relationship. That's the way those things were back then. We went fishing one weekend. Our friends owned a house on a lake and we went up to have some fun. When it came time to go to bed, we all had our own room. Like a dozen times before after lights out my door opened and someone got in bed with me. We started having fun but things were not quite right. I turned on the lights and it turned out to be Brandon- not Eric. This caused a rift between Eric, Brandon and myself that never really healed. We were all too weirded out and went our own ways.
  8. The death of bin Laden gives us a chance to claim victory and go home. Although I've been supportive of Afghanistan and Iraq, I am suffering from combat fatigue and would very much like for it to be over. The US has been at war constantly since 9/11. That's almost twice as long as WWII.
  9. Ricky- Let him know that we're thinking about him.
  10. Why Satan? Thor is cooler and better looking. If you end up in a hopeless fight because of courage (NOT pride), he will appear and fight beside you.
  11. Spider bites are like wasp or bee stings in some ways. Some people react badly to them. A brown recluse is bad enough.
  12. You're getting Lacey for your birthday? All I got was a steak. Happy Birthday Pal!
  13. people don't seem to have any qualms about "negging" my opinions. I don't feel bad about returning the favor. Of course- it all balances out in the end. My rep is one of the biggest on the board.
  14. I'm surprised that Obama and the democratic party don't have a big May Day celebration... it's kinda a tradition with Lefties.
  15. I don't think of her at all.
  16. We're familiar with the Brown Recluse in Mississippi and several other species of odious arachnids. They are very bad news. All my best wishes go out to Dustin.
  17. It's a rare condition in the jet stream that creates a great amount of wind-shear in the upper atmosphere that sets up super-outbreaks. There hasn't been one like we had Wednesday since the mid-thirties. Quite a lot of scientific data was gathered.
  18. This is cool. we should have a regular advice thread for those sticky situations that everyone inevitably steps in. Everybody can ask or answer.
  19. Dear Ms. Manners: I have a delicate situation at work that I would like some advice about. We are reimbursed for expenses as long as they are reasonable and justified. I have gotten paid several times for out of pocket expenses per office policy. Today I found out that my last expense check bounced. This is obviously an oversight on the part of our office manager. I would hate to embarrass her in front of the owner. How best to handle the situation? I was thinking of having a quiet word with the office manager without dragging anyone else in on what is obviously a simple accounting mistake. This way we get it resolved, the office manager doesn't lose face and she owes me one. Is my thinking sound? -Befuddled
  20. How many people would chose to wear a t-shirt that says kick me?
  21. Mississippi was battered but not as badly as Alabama. We may not know for some days how many were actually killed. F3 and F4 sized tornadoes hit several relatively large towns in Alabama at rush hour. It was a horrible slaughter. It was the worse casualties since the Tupelo-Gainesville outbreaks in 1936 (454 killed, thousands injured). The April 27 tornadoes rank with some of the deadliest tornadoes in US history.
  22. It's been a long time since I got asked silly questions by str8 people. The only way that it can happen is if you give them permission or open the door for such questions. I don't. It's none of their f**king business and my dignity is more important than their sordid curiosity. Of course there are ways of answering those questions that shut them down. "So uh, like, are you the boy or girl in a relationship?" No stupid. I'm the Beast in the relationship. "So...you take it up the ass?" Bend over and I'll show you Sugar Pants. That's usually enough to either shut the door on that line of inquiry or seduce the little bitch asking stupid questions.
  23. See if you can guess who these three are:
