Welcome Nono, Nice to meet you!
-
A door labeled on-air opened and a short guy with entirely too much hair appeared and motioned for us to come into the studio. We followed him into a crowded nest of microphones, cables, albums, turntables and inexplicable electronics. Dust in the Wind by Kansas was ending and the DJ was coming up on a break. Right on que the DJ keyed his mike and said, "It's Austin in the afternoon and I got Supertramp's Logical Song and the Rush's Spirit of the Radio coming right up after this word from our sponsor. Hang in there, I've got a special treat for you on our next break." Austin in the Afternoon pushed a button and an advertisement for the Sutton Group's home, life, auto and business insurance began. There were a few chairs and a bench in the studio and we planted ourselves to watch the show. Austin looked up from the 3-ring circus that he was running and sighed. "Which one of you guys is our winner?" Joey answered, "Me, Joey White." "Well congrats Joey. Got six friends lined up for the concert?" Joey nodded. Austin muttered, "Aw Damn. OK guys- first names only on the air. I see three Oak Hill class of 80 jerseys- are all of you from seniors from Oak Hill?" David answered for the group, "Yeah, plus the other two in the van outside." When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical. And all the birds in the trees, well theyd be singing so happily, Joyfully, playfully watching me.... Austin continued to prep us for our moment of fame as the second song took off. Begin the day With a friendly voice A companion, unobtrusive Plays that song thats so elusive And the magic music makes your morning mood Off on your way Hit the open road There is magic at your fingers... As soon as the second set ended, Austin keyed his mike and said, "Welcome back to the Austin in the Afternoon show. For the last month we've been running a little contest that you might have heard of: the Stones Six Pack. Well today I have the winner in the studio. It is with great.. reluctance, since I couldn't talk him into taking me, that I hand the big envelope to our winner." "Joey- you've won six tickets to see the Rolling Stones at the Superdome in New Orleans, a suite for the weekend at the Marriott and six hundred bucks spending money. Joey, what do have to say about that?" Joey gushed, "Hot damn!" Austin chortled, "Hot damn indeed. I understand that you and your friends all just graduated from Oak Hill?" Joey replied, "Yeah, we're the class of 80. We call the big guy over there the Beast, this is David and blondie here is Scott." Austin asked the set up question, "So Joey, who do you listen too?" "KROC- because it's a crock... full of rock." "So Joey," Austin asked, "what song is it you want to hear? OK, you got it." Ill never be your beast of burden My back is broad but its a hurting All I want is for you to make love to me Ill never be your beast of burden Ive walked for miles my feet are hurting All I want is for you to make love to me

The Grand Canyon is located in N.E. Arizona and is a National Park. It is near the point where the three borders of Utah, Arizona and Nevada come together. Most people stay in Flagstaff and make day trips into the park. Grand Canyon 35 miles east of Flagstaff is the best preserved Meteor Crater on earth. Well worth a look. The desert Southwest is an amazing part of the US and I think that you should take off a year and explore all of it. I would go toward New Mexico - quite beautiful and home to some really neat stuff: The National Radio Observatory Very Large Array, is located 50 miles west of Socorro on U.S. Highway 60. From U.S. 60, turn South on NM 52, then West on the VLA access road, which is well marked. Signs will point you to the Visitor Center. It is very cool- neat museum and you'll get to see one of the world's premier radio telescopes in action. VLA Carlsbad Caverns, on the border of New Mexico and Texas is one of the best caves for people to explore. Carlsbad Back in the day, I used to travel a lot in the four-corners area and really love to place. Take a camera and a lot of film or you'll regret it. PS- go in May or June before it's too hot to enjoy. Nights will be cool but bearable.

I'm not sure that there is a book exactly like what you are looking for. There have been some attempts but IMHO no one has really gotten there yet. The GMHC Complete Guide does contain some valuable information and might be a good place to start. As far as how your teen views gay men, that comes from two places: experience and culture. If he has lived in a household where every other word from a role model has been fag, queer, poofer- then he associates negativity with homosexuality. If his experience with gay men has been as the only kid in a bar full of leacherous old trolls, then his opinion be understandably negative. This is very, very common and the only cure for it? Experience and culture. He needs experience with gay peers in a non-threatening environment to see that sexuality is merely a facet of personality and it is character that ultimately makes a person worth knowing. It is important that he meets or knows some gay adults that will act and treat him appropriately. That is one of the good things about this site: there are kids & adults that frequent GA but the moderators get rid of any adult who acts inappropriately. There are also a number of fine folk on the site from the U.K. here that can point you in the direction of reputable organizations that support gay youth. Let me say that I admire what you are doing. If I can help, I will. James

Merry Belated Christmas
JamesSavik commented on LittleBuddhaTW's blog entry in Little Buddha's Stone Grotto
Too late for Merry Christmas but... Just in time for Happy New Year! I hope your 2006 was good but here's wishing you (and your blog fans ) a GREAT 2007. -
Well... kicking their ass for no apparent reason makes an impression but I'm not sure it's the one you are going for. I dunno. I went theough a weird phase where I ending up fighting with my friends and then sleeping with them but I'm psyco that way. What you are looking for is common ground. Here is an example: kid a: Hey dude, I noticed you've got a Swissgear backpack. kid b: Yeah I like it. kid a: Well uh... what the hell is this thing for? Discussion of weird gadgets in a Swissgear backpack ensues that could last for hours. You see him wearing a t-shirt for a band [you don't hate]: kid a: Dude, I noticed that you are wearing the Black Parade t-shirt. Is it as good as their first album? Discussion of My Chemical Romance breaks out, pros and cons of the two albums, etc It can be as simple as that.

Oh yes! Gift cards are good. I read that the top 5 most wanted gift cards are: 1. Best Buy 2. Wal-mart (no accounting for taste I suppose) 3. Amazon 4. E-bay 5. Borders ________________________________________________ Oh yes- I almost forgot! Please support Product Red A number of companies have designated a RED product or service and will donate to drug fund to fight AIDS in Africa. As of now, there is the Sprint Red Razor, Red Ipod Nano, Red American Express, Red Armani Watch, Red Converse shoes and Red Gap-ware. Keep your eyes open for new RED products! While AIDS has had a horrible impact on our own community, Africa is suffering horrific losses. Why not buy a product or service that you are going to use anyway and save a life or two?

Hey guys! Christmas is Monday so you've only got 2, maybe 3 days left. Please post last minute gift ideas in this thread but no spam! I'm giving a number of people on my list secure storage boxes from Vaultz. They make a number of small, stylish secure boxes for media storage, index cards, art supplies, laptops and toolboxes. Most of the items are between $10-20 and they look sharp. Oh and they are tough as nails. Just an idea. Let's hear some more!

I suppose the cats could give you conniptions. They calming down yet? Have you thought of biking to work or is it impractical?

No, I haven't fallen off the earth. My Mom had surgery this morning. Nothing too serious but right now she is KOed for the next week. My Dad has advanced Parkingstons and has lost the use of his right hand so he needs a lot of help. At the moment, I'm carrying the ball for their household. Thinking back about some of the crap we've been through, I'm surprised that it worked out this way. For years we hated each other and called each other names, I never hit them but I got punched, they ignored me for years. Now Here we are. I have to ask myself why and the answer is that it's just the right thing to do. Why does it seem like it is easier to hold a grudge than it is to forgive and forget? It burns up a lot of energy carrying around that useless dead weight. Having dumped a lot of those old resentments, I know I'm stronger, more powerful person. Truth is so strange sometimes. Surrender to win? Forgiveness really is easier? The war is over. We can all go home if we can find the peace within; and understand that our rage is a waste of energy. I'll be busy but I'll try to get out another installment of SOS. Peace, JS

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad...is this enough proof?

Well Nick- somebody decided to do something. Let's hope it doesn't back fire. French Jets strike targets in Dafur Region France admits air raids on Darfur neighbours By Alex Duval Smith Published: 15 December 2006 France yesterday defended recent fighter jet raids on towns bordering Sudan's Darfur region by claiming the aggressive action was aimed at preventing regional chaos. In the past two weeks, with minimal publicity, Mirage F1 jets have attacked and scattered a rebellion in north-eastern Central African Republic (CAR). But reports from the ground say the operation has had a devastating impact on civilians. A French Defence Ministry spokesman said the action - which included regular Mirage sorties in neighbouring Chad where tens of thousands of refugees from Darfur are living - was in line with international calls to stabilise the region. -
Happy Birthday to a great editor and a good friend.

I don't really care for or about religions per see. People can subscribe to any mythology, superstition or misguided notions they feel comfortable with. My problem is when believers in sky-god cults use their money and power to inflict their religion on everyone else- by this I mean restricting the civil rights of people who are on their sky-daddy's s**t list. At this point I will stop because I don't want to step in any political BS.

This member of your adoring public would gladly pay 7.50 to see the Ordinary Us, The Log Way or Desert Dropping in a theater. I promise I won't act like a hyper-nerd Star Wars fanboy. JS

Sucking in the Seventies- part II

It's a special treat for my blog readers. Both of you. -
I think what you are looking for is Ethan Stoller's BKAB which appeared in the credits of V for Vendetta. In the version of the song that appeared in the movie, there were speeches by Malcolm X ("On Black Power" ) and Gloria Steinem (Address to American Women). Currently the rights to this song are in limbo and you can only get a copy of the "speechless" version of the song that you can hear streaming here at Ethan Stoller's MySpace page. The copy of MKAB w/the speeches by Malcolm X and Steinhem only exists on the DVD of the movie and is not included on the soundtrack compilation for V for Vendetta. If anyone knows how to rip a song odd of DVD and turn it into an MP3, I would love to have a copy.

Your work is of professional quality Dom. It is easily publishable and several of your stories would make strong screenplays. Take your break Dom. While you're at it, you might want to drive into the city and talk to a few agents. James

This is a clip from the image in question. I have the galaxies marked. There are two spiral galaxies which are shaped like a whirlpool. Lenticular galaxies are shaped like a lens or football. Ellpitical galaxies range from round to and an ellipse. It's just rare that you'll see all of the main types on one image. The only two left out are irregular galaxies which are about 2% of the surveyed population and always end up irregular because a bigger galaxy ran over it. Low Surface Brightness galaxies are any kind of galaxy with a total luminosity below a certian threshold. LSBs can be of any shape, they are just very hard to see and are best viewed in the infra-red.
