  1. In other circumstances she might have found it easy to fall in love with Orien. He was beautiful, courteous, gentle, attentive in a kind and interested rather than forced and overbearing way, intelligent and witty. Conversation was easy and he seemed genuinely interested in her life before. After that first glance the sadness had been efficiently masked and Gabrielle saw no further sign of it. And yet, out of the corner of her eye she often caught a certain pause, a sagging of the sho
  2. When Gabrielle rode behind her father along the mountain path climbing above the village she looked down and knew that somewhere in the scatter of buildings was the only person who could have made this place seem like home. She wondered what he was doing, what he was thinking. Was he awake or was he dreaming? Was he dreaming of her? In the days to follow would he ask for her and what would they tell him? When would it come? The realisation that she was gone forever. Her view of the villag
  3. There was something in the way he said it that made both Ben and Gabrielle turn to the road and peer into the distance. It was a full five minutes before they heard the sound of horses and longer still before they came into sight, two horses, riding at full gallop. Gabrielle and Ben immediately got to their feet and stood at the side of the road, waving their arms. The horses came to a skidding halt, raising a cloud of dust as their riders, not waiting for the horses to be still vaulte
  4. “Hey you two. If you are finished with the male bonding stuff Lee says we need to leave.” Leelany had disappeared but there were sounds from within the cave of beds being dismantled. Cai slid off his rock and crawled to the fire scooping handfuls of sand to douse the flames. Playfully he flicked some towards Gabrielle and it showered over her bent head. “Hey, be careful with that” turning she saw the laughter in his eyes. “You did it on purpose. You beast.” She was scraping up
  5. Left alone Gabrielle carefully slid out from under Cai and lay down next to him as she had before. This time he took her in his arms and there was some of the old strength there. The heat of the fever was subsiding, leaving a lethargy that showed in his eyes and the lazy way his fingers toyed with her hair. He smiled and it seemed as though her heart would burst with a pain that was unexpected and inexplicable. “What’s wrong?” “Nothing.” “I see a shadow in your eyes.”
  6. The cave had a magical feel, with the flickering candles and the screen of ivy shutting it off from the outside world quite effectively. The weather and the candle flame made it warm and cosy and inviting. Cai was sitting up, crossways on the bed, his back against the wall. He was sipping the herbal brew with a sour look on his face. “This is vile you know.” “I can smell it from here. Are you sure it’s good for you?” “If Lee says so then it is.” “You trust her
  7. Fortunately it was not too long before Leelany returned with water in her tin and herbs in her pouch and as she set them to brew Gabrielle watched her, her heart aching within her. “Will he be alright?” “Between you and your healer friend you are doing your best to ensure that he is not.” “I know how you feel about us Lee, but frankly I don’t care. I asked you a question and I am waiting for a reasonable reply.” “Hah, so your mask slips. Where is the sweet innoc
  8. Poor poor Blake. Mental illness is worse than physical because it is so stygmatised and difficult to see. Blake is in a terrible situation which I can't see a way out of. I hope they get together though and heal each other
  9. Hmmm... iteresting indeed Poor Blake, he really is in a bad way isn't he? THis is a fantastic story
  10. It's Faboulous chapter. It had me on the edge of my seat. What a fabulous description of a panic attack. I've never had one myself but it was so elievable. Both of them are still harbouring secrets and I don't know what Haze's is but I don't think that Blake's is going to be resolved very easily
  11. Awesome smile
  12. Aww Sorry I spoil your make-up hun. You'd better get the tissues ready for the next chapter. A large glass of something highly alcoholic might help too.I am going to finish posting Red Gold this week and will be starting a new story which I hope will bring more smiles than tears and another character I think will be almost as popular to Brdige
  13. Bridge is my favorite characters I have ever written. It's the strength and playfulness that surmounts the frailty. Right from the first time I met him I have loved him to bits. I never know how a story is going to go before I write it and it was hard to take him down so far. I'm glad you love him too and I won't make you wait too long to find out what happens next
  14. Yeah the next chapter is a killer I'm glad you're still liking it second time around Thanks for the review Cia, I know you're busy and it's very much appreciated
  15. Phew is it hot in here. I LOVE the hairstyle and the rest of the picture too Marzipan I am exactly the same. When I have something I almost know I can't rest until I know it. Like seeing someone on TV and not remembering their name or what film they were in. Thank the Gods for Google Looking good
  16. I second that
  17. It’s almost eleven o’clock. Where has the day gone? I can’t put it off any more. I have to go to Bridge now. I realise with some surprise that I am scared; my stomach is full of ash. I don’t hear any laughter today, when I enter my apartment, although there are voices coming from the bathroom. When I open the door I am surprised to find all three of them in the tub. Little curls of steam are rising from the surface of the water. “Luma.” The light that comes into Bridge’s eyes when he sees
  18. On my way back to my suite I meet Chancey. “Is everything alright, My Lord?” “Alright?” “You look... upset, My Lord.” “Upset? No... no, I’m fine. Can you bring breakfast to my room? None of us ate much dinner last night.” “No. I noticed.” He says with a concerned frown. “Is... everyone okay?” “We’re fine thank you. Could you just bring breakfast?” “What about Alex and Sam?” “Alex and Sam?” “You asked for them to be prepared for ten o’clock and it’s ten past.” “Hel. I h
  19. I just have a real thing for men who look like women. I don't have any interest in women who look like men. Maybe I'm gayer than I thought.

Thank you. This one was fun to write. I love the idea of people making such fundamental mistakes. Glad you liked it.

Hehe, yeah it was really fun to write about this character through the eyes of people who were all pissed off with him. I have always been interested in how people perceive people and situations and how wrong they can be. I'm glad you enjoyed the story

It's hard to say. My short stories tend to come to me complete. The only sequel I have EVER written is Enigma II. I think that if I tried to write a sequel I would lose the sponineity and it wouldn't workANyway, I'm glad you like the story and I love your reviews

Thank you I'm glad you liked this one. I wrote it a while ago and it just poured out. It started with a figure...Ephraim and kind of grew from there. One of these days I am going to write something sweet and light but the darkness is in me and it keeps slipping out.
