Colorado State Patrol - 6. Brake Job

The Trooper & The Mechanic

Justice Wagner has become a good buddy over the past couple of years. He owns an auto repair shop on the outskirts of town, with a reputation for having honest mechanics, doing a good job, and charging a fair price. He, and the two guys working for him, have been taking care of me since I moved to Breckenridge. Cops and firefighters make up a big chunk of the shop's clientele.

The guy is friendly and easy to get along with. Probably twenty years my senior, with little hair left on his head, but built solid. Big and strong, like one of those Detroit creations from the sixties he loves to work on. A few of us jokingly call him Big Daddy. When he sent me a text message saying he had something for me, and asking me to stop by the garage after closing time, I smiled. I had a pretty good idea of what he wanted me to come over for. Hell, I did more than smile, I got real excited.

I’m not sure when my fixation on the BMW X5 started; I drool over it every time I see one. Of course, the salary of a Colorado State Trooper isn’t large enough to allow me to purchase and maintain a new one, so I’d been looking for a good used one for a while. I’d asked Justice to keep an eye out for me and let me know if he came across one he thought would fit my budget.

“I’m not sure about this, Justice. I was thinking about something three or four years old, not eight.”

“Don’t be an idiot, bud; you need to buy this car. You can’t beat the price, it’s got under a hundred thousand miles, it’s been meticulously maintained under the hood, and the inside is pristine. There’s a couple of scratches on the paint but who cares about those.”

“Meticulously? Pristine? Who the heck are you and what have you done with my foul-mouthed mechanic?”

“Fuck you, copper. Look, it does need a brake job, but you know I’ll treat you right. Plus, just ‘cause I like you, I’ll give you a free lube job and top off your fluids.”

Interesting chapter.

I like the shout out to Wagner. It may not be an Easter Egg, but I do recall a reference to him in one of your writings.

As for that last line, let's just call it a fine (very fine) example of doublespeak, shall we? :D

Y'all are just jumping to conclusions! I just write innocent lines of dialogue between two friends and all of a sudden it's real crowded down here in the gutter.

Oh Carlos, you are truly a Master of the Double Entendre :worship:

I'm glad you read at least some of what I post! Once the tales wrap up I guess I'll just be tossed away like a bubble gum wrapper.

Kid, even though now and then I have to write serious and/or sad stuff 'cause the story calls for it, the quick quips are ALWAYS present in all my stuff.

Got at least one more TT in me, we'll see after that. I don't have that much 'free' time and there's another little series I'd like to get out there.

Been out of pocket, and just now catching up on this series...fun! Really enjoying 'em...and your use of the double entendres on this last chapter was surperb! Had me laughing!

More, more!

It's good to see your name pop up, Rex. I hope you're feeling better.

Got the next one partially written, hope to post it this weekend. It's getting tougher to come up with good chcukles! LOL
