NaPoWriMo 2017 - 3. Days 15 to 21

April 15 - Prompt: Being in the middle of something

 

The enemy of my brother is mine,
she knows not of the love I bear
or how our forces may combine
she must watch out for snares.

 

Though it troubles that I hate
this enemy sight unseen
that through me she meets her fate
still I know her soul is unclean

 

People who cheat and defraud
believe they are guardians, or
better—believe they are gods
I must turn from this woman I abhor

 

 

 

April 16

 

Birds dance and weave nests

While spring rains fall and sun shines

My weary heart smiles still

And though i tire of this world

It goes on in spite of me

 

 

 

April 17

 

I am dust behind your steps
Forgotten as you move on
I no longer care, as you do not.
Walk away

 

 

 

April 18

 

I try to forget what you did
The hurt you caused
Your attitude
Your belief, and controlling nature
Take it out on your ‘clients’
And leave me alone

 

 

 

April 19

 

Like the song says, ‘You’re so vain’
You should think this poem is ‘bout you
I’ve met many who are fakes—liars
Cold-hearted. I don’t know why you’re here
Can you not find a man of your own?
Do you think all men are children?
That you need make decisions for them?
Get off that high horse you’re riding
it’s been rubbing you too long.

 

 

 

April 20

 

The day rises, and rises still, with the sun

I see the beauty there, but it moves me not

My heart beats, and beats still; I am tired

Searching for the light, it teases my fingertips

I reach up and farther up, trying to hold sunbeams

One day I will rest and rest forever

  

 

April 21

 

Spring is new starts
fresh growth
but why do I feel listless
tired and worn
each step out of time

I am especially taken by April 16, and by April 20. April 17 is terrifically powerful, an indictment. My head fills with images and metaphors all from these lines. April 21 brings to mind skies that start out blue, but turn lifeless grey by midday. Thank you for sharing these.
