NaPoWriMo 2017 - 2. Days 8 to 14

April 8, 2017 Prompt: Repetition (Repeat a phrase or word throughout)

That’s Why I Cry

There are things you never get over,

Times you never forget: that’s why I cry.

There are people I love, who have left

This mortal coil: that’s why I cry.

There are wars and fighting

Things we cannot stop: that’s why I cry.

There are sunsets and rainbows

The beauty in our world: that’s why I cry.

There is ignorance and apathy but also

There is pathos and cultivation: that’s why I cry.

There are those who assume much,

Think they are god-like but are weak: that’s why I cry.

There is you, the one who cares, and loves me

Though I’m in pain and lash out: that’s why I cry

April 9, 2017 Prompt: write a 9 line poem

So often I wonder what is life?

But there is no answer is there?

We come and go but there’s no reason

There is no purpose under heaven

We work and build and procreate

Leave things worse than we found them

We amass our chattel and our riches

To what end, what’s it for?

This is why fruit flies don’t build.

April 10, 2017 Prompt: Write a portrait – but not a person’s looks.

She was perfect in my young eyes

The only woman I’d ever truly love

Gentle, yet with the strength of ten

She guided us with a firm hand

Protected with a lioness’ fervor

Fought and died heroically

April 11, 2017

The cruelty of man will never abate

For he is not happy unless he can hate

Kill this one and that, if they’re different

We are victims of their skewed judgement

The world must stand together and say

All of us have value, black, white or Gay

April 12, 2017

Will Spring ever make her way

Will she ever win the day?

Mr. Freeze just won’t keep away

He wants to move in and stay

When the Sun sends her rays

We all want to say hurrah

April 13, 2017

I wish time could be rewound

So many mistakes I’d erase

But mostly I’d sweep away

What I’ve done to you

If it cost me ten years of life

I’d happily just pay it

April 14, 2017

When I am alone
on this planet filled with people
and all is sliding from under me
When the mirror does not reflect
and sound is muted
Your hand on my shoulder
is everything

Not an easy week. Thanks for reading.

Oh tim, such wonderful poems!!! I love each of them. My favorite is the on for the 9. of April. But it is a head to head race with the 14.of April.

From beginning to end, I was riveted. That's Why I Cry is an instant classic to me, and April 14 had my eyes watering. But then, you made me want to stand up with you in April 11. Your poem about rewinding time hit me hard, too. The portrait poem was as good as any painting, surely. April 12 made me chuckle, but April 9 made me want to take a retreat to think. This is wonderful writing.

Stunning, all of them... impossible to single one out but I will, not because it's better than any other, but that it deals with the awful and the good at the same time, and that's life in a nutshell. Okay, I'll mention the last two as well... the sentiment... the testament to the one you love, with simple honesty... well, they're beautiful... cheers... Gary....

A very emotional and heart-wrenching selection.  The first poem and the portrait really stood out to me.  I can relate to a lot of the questioning in the poems, since I have been struggling with similar questions myself lately.  Major hugs to you.  I hope next week is better :kiss:

Thanks hoho! Yeah, shame there is no handbook!  Each of us have to make it through on our own, but if we're lucky we have friends or family to hold us up from time to time.  Thanks for reading and your support, hoho! xoxox

Yeah, you're right AC, she still is ... so much has been going on emotionally...sometimes i wish i had her back.  Michael's mum is amazing, but she's not mine.  But i still can see and hear mine.

I'm very pleased with 14.  I like it, it works well i think. There are a couple of people who are bright lights in my darkness and that's what they do for me..

thanks again AC, for everything.. tim

I liked the repetition poem - that was also a prompt I liked writing for. Your reasons for crying? They should be everyone's. My favourite was the last one. Short but it conveys so much - the feelings of dislocation, depression are painfully clear. As is the cure. :)
