NaPoWriMo 2017 - 1. Days 1 to 7

April 1, 2017

Colour is a memory, something from long ago
My world is grey, the light gone from my soul

A tunnel dark and lonely, stretches out ahead
The crossroads there, you crafted with your need

Left, is lonely and I’d move through on my own
Right is the path we’d share; in your steps I follow

You’ve always been my rock, the only one for me
But you’re making changes and I don’t know the game

Though my belief is bone fide, my tears are real too
As we walk this road together, am I still the one for you?

April 2, 2017

Am I over-reacting?

No matter how often

I scrub my skin

The smell of him

Can’t be removed

Does it matter?

I’ve sold my soul

The scraps that remain

There’s nothing more

What am I now?

What do you see?

The mirror, when I’m brave

Reflects empty eyes

April 3, 2017

You’re sorry now

Don’t mind my laughter

Look at yourself

Do you really not see?

The cycle of your needs

What makes me sadder?

Your lies to me

Or the ones you tell yourself?

April 4, 2017

April came in grey and cold

But today I feel warmth

You and I have had it tough

Still our hands entwine

April 5, 2017 - Prompt: Recipe

I’d like to make you perfect

But how does one do that?

Can I remake your mold?

Pick and choose your traits?

No, this recipe I cannot change

And perfect you sure ain’t

So I'll take as you come

Imperfections and all

April 6, 2017 – Prompt: Bridges

I climb from this abyss you’ve dug

My heart is heavy, my limbs are weak

You call to me from the other side

Beckoning, you hold out your hands

The deep divide between us widens

How can I jump this vastness alone?

Tendrils of your love span the distance

Feeling their way, digging for purchase

I move across the bridge you've built

Trusting in your strength and love,

always.

April 7, 2017 - Prompt: What am I? (bit unfair this one, unless you know Toronto, and me pretty well)

Colour blooms in simple pots

The street’s alive and bustling

Meat’s smokin’ from the deli

Newsboy’s out there hustling

Sun’s rays warm the pavement

From it the ancient tree still grows

Patios welcome patrons

Laundromats to wash your clothes

Here you’ll find the rich and poor

Streetcars rumble on their tracks

This neighbourhood is brilliant

There’s nothing that it lacks!

So the first week is done.... Thanks for reading ...
If you want the answer to the last poem, just ask. Don't want to write it here in case people want to figure it out. I'm sure a few of you will guess right away!!

tim, your poems are always rich with emotion. This week's collection is no different. Dealing with changing seasons, changing relationships, changing perceptions. You capture it all in such a soulful way. The April 2 poem is especially moving to me, as is April 6, Bridges. The last poem is, of course, a mystery since I'm not familiar with the neighborhood you describe. I'll await the answer. :) I'm glad your collection was 'found'! Cheers - Mac

Here is the neighborhood.. it's where my nephew moved .. i love it though.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roncesvalles,_Toronto

Oh, tim. :hug:I know relationships have their ups and downs, but never ever doubt or fear about Mike's love for you. I can feel the worry you have put through your poem. And you wrenched my heart with your second poem. I can feel the pain. Don't blame yourself for anything that had happened. Even the third poem makes me sad. I never thought that April would be like this for someone.

Thank god you came along and can see the bond you two have. The forth poem given the smile to me along with the happy tears. And I don't want to change a word about what I said about the fifth and sixth poem in Live Poets Society. You gotta check it out for these.

Coming to the seventh poem, your neighbourhood sounds great with different colours and different cultures. I have no idea about which area you are talking about. So I'll wait along with Mac.

As Mac said,  your all poems carry so much emotions and bond every reader to the core. Lovelier collection of first week of NaPoWriMo. I loved them all.

~Emi.

Thanks Emi. Oh Michael and I have had a pretty rough time of it recently, but we both believe in our relationship.. we'll be okay. Here is the neighborhood where my nephew Peter moved to when he left our place.  I love it there.

As Mac said, your poems always carry such an emotional punch.  The second one was haunting.  The ones showing relationship struggles are poignant, yet give me hope.  I love the last line of the April 4th poem.  "Still our hands entwine".  It's been a long time since I was in Toronto, but I can picture your neighborhood clearly even if I don't know the exact place you're describing.  Nice week one! :)

Thanks for reading and your comments. Sadly its not where we live but I wish we did. My nephew lives there but I love it.

Finally the lost verses have been found !  :2thumbs:

I love your poems of this first week, and my emotions echo yours, i.e. going up and down and up ...  :thankyou:

What is that neighbourhood ?  Queen's Street ?  King's Street ?

Thanks hoho!!  It's King and Roncesvalles.. lovely old (for us) Polish neighborhood but there are all sorts of people living there. Lovely street: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roncesvalles,_Toronto

Hi tim, I am glad that your poems were found. And as I suspected before, they are great and worth reading and thinking about. I love the one from April 4. most. It is so simple and says so much. xoxo Lyssa

Thanks for reading Lyssa.  I'm glad they were thought provoking. Michael and i have been going through a rough patch.. around the 4th, we turned the corner and things are looking better. Thanks again for all your support... xoxo

A great first week tim. As has been said, your poems are direct and deeply intense. I will always admire your ability to express so much in so few words. <3

Thanks Def ... appreciate you reading .. there is mucho poetry to read this month!

Here's the link to the street: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roncesvalles,_Toronto

I fell in love with the neighborhood and so has Peter. He loves it there. We went into the local drug store, it's a chain, but the signs from the ceiling are in English and Polish, all the people we interacted with we very friendly. Little fruit markets, butchers, deli, and all manor of restaurants.

Good stuff, tim... really good. I reeled a bit from the expressed doubt in the first one, and Bridge was just lovely, both wording and sentiment... Recipe was both loving and amusing... and my guess was Queen Street, possibly near the beaches... I wasn't far off :) . I have a craving for breakfast at the Sunset Grill now. These were tim poems for sure... cheers... Gary....

I love your poems!  Being a cook, I like the recipe poem very much.  The first one is greyt, too!  Though I think grey should be the supportive color, not the main color.

Thank you Ashi.. sorry notifications are difficult. I'm sorry I'm late to reply. You're a cook?  How cool! I really appreciate you reading and leaving a comment. Thanks Ashi xo

Try Aries on Roncy.. great food.  Thanks Gary .. you're right it could have been Queen Street just as easily.  Queen has changed so much from when i was a kid... not for the better in my opinion.  The first one yeah.. Mike and I were having a few issues, but things are okay. Thanks for your comments and support. xoxo

Mac said it very well. Even your little Toronto poem vibrates with relevancy for us readers because it's filtered through your emotional lens. Simple things get magnified to touching proportions.

I'm sorry this was a rough week, and perhaps writing these poems helped you cope. Even as I'm typing this, the image of tendrils reaching across the divide fills my head.

You are an amazing poet.

This April and last are/were awful, I hope this isnt a trend!  Writing has always helped me cope with things.. poetry especially.  I'm not sure how reader's feel about it... this week batch are rather angry.. maybe today's less so. I hope so.  Thanks for your support, insight, your generosity with your knowlege and your time.  Many hugs  are due xoxoxox tim
