Terpsichore Behind the Mask - 6. Cascarda and Pavane
Cascarda
What I seek
the hand of fate denies,
so subtle humor and secret smiles
that might have beguiled my eyes shine on another,
no less estimable man than I,
nor worthier, but more
fortunate.
I don’t know
the man whose dream I shared
for one brief hour in the summer night;
I woke at dawn unable to recall his name,
yet I swear my fingers knew his skin,
and my tongue still savored
his salt taste.
He drew me
into his warm embrace
where no kiss or whispered word was spared,
nor any inch of skin untouched by his lean frame,
while with his fingers did he trace mine
to render my senses
overwhelmed.
I felt him
knocking at my entrance,
asking permission to come inside;
my door is narrow but welcomed him nonetheless
for my halls would embrace this lover,
stretching easily
in my room.
It’s not sex
for which we are condemned,
As few deny or dim our pleasure;
but rather it is for affection we are scorned,
hands held, an arm round a lover’s waist,
heads on shoulders, claiming
equal love.
Pavane
Memory
walks shaded streets with you,
and splashes cool water at the beach;
retreats to the sofa in the heat of the day;
recollection snuggles close and safe,
feels you stir and rise to
lie with me.
I thank anyone who has taken the time to read all six of these dance sets. I appreciate your being patient enough to do so. I must reinforce my sense of gratitude to @AC Benus and @asamvav111 who were most helpful in making these poems better. Many thanks to them and to you who read.

I am grateful you took time to read Terpsichore. I must also repeat my deep thanks to @AC Benus for his invention and sharing of this poetic form, and for his help in editing and beta reading. I'm also thankful to @asamvav111 for his beta reading, and suggestions. If you have any comments or thoughts to share, I'd be happy to see them. Any sort of response is welcome.
