Cozy Contemplations - 37. Chapter 37 The Bond

Just some musings about spring, life, and lasting love...

The Bond

A spring rain is gently falling

As I respond to my mare's calling

I stroke her neck o'er the gate

And she forgives my being late

Our bond still fresh as when she was born

Though both of us do be time-worn

She nickers softly as I near

A greeting I'll miss, its meaning held dear

Blue

Not enough is exclaimed about violets blue

The joy they give with their startling hue

One of the first discoveries of spring

Giving her new green some bashful bling

They make me giddy with their sighting

Signaling the end of winter’s blighting

Alas, they give way to summer’s heat

But while they’re here they can’t be beat

Delicate yet strong while adorned in blue

I recall a special day and remember you

A once shared trek across awakening land

Becomes solitary, yet I still feel your hand

Haiku #1

A night of spring rain

Cleanses more than Mother Earth

For I am renewed

Haiku #2

Hostas are reaching

And raspberries send new stalks

While I tend to me

Haiku #3

It’s said men have souls

Guiding us on our journeys

Yet still we get lost

Haiku #4

Physical aching

Does pale in comparison

To that of the heart

Loved all of them.  Each is different yet full of meaning.  While "Blue" spoke to me the most, all spoke or sang clearly and in a beautiful way.  Haiku 1 and Haiku 4 were almost as meaningful to me as "Blue."

Any single one of these six would stand firmly on its own. All together, they pack in the proverbial tons and tons of meaning.

Exceptionally well done.

It's wonderful to see this, Paul. Poetry gives voice to what otherwise might be unsaid. I was in a reflective mood last night and this morning, and I am appreciative for my blessings. Glad these offerings meant something to you... the craft is best when shared. :)  You are very kind, and I thank you for it. Cheers! Gary....

I've missed your poems, G-Man!  Gotta say they came at a good time to drive away some melancholy I've been prone to for a while these past few months...

Spring is finally here, but I miss seeing the violets that came up in my lawn since my vision went bad, but your words brought their presence back to me full force.

I've been kinda hung up on writing too, but I'm hoping your efforts have spurred me on once more.

Hugs, my dear friend

Hey, CG! Great to hear from you. This collection didn't garner much attention, but I write poetry for me, and I'm glad it may have spurred you to write. My violets have now run their course, but they are a constant that will be back next spring, in the same place they've been for 35 years.

I'm constantly preparing myself for the eventual loss of my old mare, but I treasure each day I have her.

Hope your melancholy eases, my dear friend. Thanks for checking in.
