Cozy Contemplations - 15. Chapter 15 Allowing Joy

Blessings.

Cozy Contemplations

Chapter 15 Allowing Joy

Like sandpaper stroking a fine-grained pine

Likes grapes cajoled into succulent wine

Life makes changes with the deftest of touch

Sometimes too little and sometimes too much

I pause and take stock of what time has wrought

Recalling tantalizing wants I sought

Some came to fruition while others happened not

Like a fly stuck in a web, at times I was caught

I might ponder directions but hold no regrets

Life’s naught but a game and I hedged so many bets

I now play with words and weave lives not my own

A path unexpected but seeds have been sown

Creating’s an elixir that’s always sung in my blood

Began at an age when I molded houses out of mud

Yes, the mother does take, but there are timely gifts she gives

And the boy who once shaped castles, in this body still lives

Thanks for reading. When I was growing up, I always dreamed I would be an artist. Life got in the way. Turns out, though, I am... I paint with words, and it feels just as right. Cheers.

"Creating’s an elixir that’s always sung in my blood." I love this particular line, because it reminds me that dreams of my youth may be far gone, but my need to create is still just as strong as it was then. Maybe even more.

Beautifully done, Gary.

I find it ironic that I've circled back after all these years, in a way I never expected. We all have our dreams and intentions, but often, we leave them behind as life demands survival. In this poem,  I am counting my blessings in having found an outlet for that definitive part of me. Thanks, my friend ... yeah, every bit as strong

I love this poem, plain and simple. It describes so much of what circulates in my brain and blood. There is no emoticon for the soul's resonant ping of recognition. But if there were, I'd use it here.

I think I just heard that ping, Parker. I'm not surprised this would resonate with you... thank you, my friend

Well, once more you show us the breadth of your palette...stories, poems, insightful and touching reviews...I have to say I am grateful that life got in the way of your ideal of being a painter--that would have deprived your widely-scattered audience of so many hours of pleasure.  You've reached far more hearts than you might have in a studio or gallery, and yet we can still see the scenes you depict with pen alone.

My late sister Ilene was the artist in our family, with a fantastic ability to paint--I should know from seeing her work, and the comments my art teacher made to me ten years after she graduated.  It takes a lot of talent to be remembered that long in a public high school setting, and I was not so talented.  I could draw, but any attempt I made at painting looked like a badly done paint-by-numbers ket.  :o

So, no...you may have not painted on canvas, but your pictures in our heads inspired by your words have left indelible worlds for us all.  I await every excursion keenly, and wonder what will be conjured up next.

Thanks, buddy  . So nice of you to say. As good as I might possibly have been as an artist, I wasn't as productive as my art teacher would have liked. I hated deadlines, and didn't care for sticking to 'guidelines' with regards to mediums, or even size of canvas... I painted for me. Later in life I was always building, remodeling or decorating, and only the occasional piece of artwork was produced. Now I have my outlet, and it fits like a glove (no... not like the one Michael Jackson wore :P ). I enjoy writing... whether poetry, short story, or epic... I feel no restrictions... just a strong desire to improve. I've learned from so many writers on GA, and you are at the forefront, not only for your skill and vision, but for your dedication. I'll take this moment to thank you for that. Love you, CG

Very nicely done. You make us see beyond the words with seemingly effortless brush strokes.

Thanks, dugh. I'm glad it seems effortless :) . It certainly is rewarding, and I feel very fortunate at times that I get this second chance at fulfilling those urges I was born with. I guess all that time spent reading did some good... the canvas has changed but the feeling hasn't...
