Cozy Contemplations - 8. Chapter 8 Roped and Tied

A little bit of fun and good thoughts. Bartenders see it all.

Cozy Contemplations

Chapter 8 Roped and Tied

Roped and Tied

I'm tending bar

When the door bangs open

I've seen it before

This guy is a mopin'

I need a drink

The man exclaimed

I've been through the wars

And I won't be tamed

He can't expect me

To stop my cattin'

I'm not the kind

To throw my hat in

He wants to put

A ring on my hand

Like tying a hawk down

With bags of sand

Damn him to hell

With those puppy dog eyes

He's a witch with a spell

And he sees through my lies

Says it's up to me

But he's laying down the law

And just like that

He expects me to thaw

The man keeps on talking

But it's not to me

I've seen it all before

And I just let him be

What's the time, he asks

Finally focusing my way

I have an appointment

With a blasted tailor today

A Good Outlook

Sleep and tea

And writing too

Good conversation

To wake up to

The glum outside

Will not invade

This day of mine

No mire to wade

Positivity

Is the word

Negativity

A sour curd

Time well spent

With my friends

I'm open to all

The good day lends

Joy, they say

Comes from within

Shutting it down

Is our own damn sin

Laying blame

Gains us naught

It's not the way

That I've been taught

So search inside

And find that switch

Let go the thought

That life's a bitch

Roped and Tied is fun, and a hoot. But Good Outlook has important lessons for everyone. The last three stanzas are fantastic. Our own damn sin is right.

Thanks, Parker! Roped and Tied is meant to be pure fun, so I'm pleased you found it a hoot :) . Good Outlook is the attitude and mantra I need to have. It's an ongoing process. We have to want to be happy, in order to stand a chance at being happy. Thanks for the wonderful comment, and the support it provides me... cheers... Gary....

I'm glad your outlook is sunnier, Gary, even though there may still be some clouds on the way. I enjoyed both of them in their different ways. Positivity is the word - well, I know from experience that you may need to keep repeating that. Good luck.

Thanks, northie! Yes, it is a mantra I need to keep repeating. I'm continuing down my path, and the way is looking a little clearer. Thanks for helping me along, my friend... and thanks for the great comment... Cheers... Gary....

Roped and Tied made me laugh as much as it did the first time I read it.

A Good Outlook has great advice for everyone.  Sometimes your happiness *or negativity) is in you own hands.  There are times you just have to let go and embrace the positive.  The company of friends and a good cuppa doesn't hurt either ;)

I'm glad R and T  made you laugh... God, the whining you hear when you tend bar :) . It can get amusing when they protest something at first, and three drinks later, they change their tune  .  A Good Outlook represents my determination to not let myself slip backwards... there is so much good in life, and yeah, awesome friends and a cuppa don't hurt at all. Thanks, my friend, for your support... cheers... Gary....

  The support is yours, any time.

LOL... barkeeping hasn't changed much over the years... men, especially, need someone to vent to, and barbers are a thing of the past. Daytime bartenders are therapists :) ... your support is priceless to me, Lit

Had to think about these for a bit...loved them both, of course.  The first one I can sympathise with--the guy's thinking he'll be losing something if he settles down, and maybe he will, in a way...it depends on if you're happy with a life of constant change and uncertainty, or want a little more stability.

For the young, variety is the goal for most, but those of us who've lived longer have hopefully realized that variety isn't sacrificed as the price of companionship.  A life is what we make it, it can be boring and staid if we lack the drive or imagination to bring something new into every day...I'll take the joy of sharing those moments with someone who I know will be there for me every time, rather than have the added task of finding that someone.

Never give up on sharing your life with someone, friend or lover.  Seek and ye shall find.

It's that old Shakespearean saying from Hamlet (bastardized) ... methinks thou doth protest too much... this guy just thinks he wants something he probably doesn't... the right guy has come along, and he knows it... still he presents a feeble argument even as he prepares to be fitted for his wedding suit... I agree with you... variety can be had with that one person, but it's not enough for some. I've been through those wars he speaks of, and I've seen much... I know what's right for me, and you do too... it's a different strokes thing, and this guy appears to  be joining the ranks. This poem was meant to be fun. Bartenders see it all, and hear it all, and that was this guy's last gasp. :) . I love how you consider everything you read, CG... I do the same. Yes, never give up on sharing you life with that special one... I will seek again, and I wish the same for you, my dearest friend xoxoxo... cheers... Gary....

Oh wow! Roped n tied was really interesting but my heart got stuck in good outlook! It was like a life lesson...positivity is what we need n let the joy come from within instead of laying blames gains us nothing!

I thought the poem was telling us to find joy in little things....as always ur poems brighten my day!!

Yes, it was a lesson to myself. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves not to get stuck. It's such an easy thing to do, and most of the time the only one who can get you unstuck is yourself :) . I'm so pleased this brightened your day... Roped and Tied was just pure fun. Thanks, Aviana... I loved getting this comment... cheers... Gary....

A Good Outlook is a great mantra to remember.  It is much the way I deal with life.  It was what I was taught.  I got a big belly laugh from Roped and Tied.

It reminded me of the conversations I have heard when attending bachelor parties in the past.

I'd forgotten Roped and Tied. Thanks for bringing me back to it. Not all poetry needs to be deep. :P Mantras are important. Repetition of words or a phrase in my mind can snap me out of anxiety sometimes. Thanks, buddy.
