Cozy Contemplations - 33. Chapter 33 Piano Bar

Inspired by my miniature roses, and what they mean to me, I set out to write this poem a few weeks ago. However, my muse had other ideas, and instead, I wrote a story called Our Bar. My muse, and yellow roses, brought me back to this.

*****

Piano Bar

Miniature yellow roses

Perfect in their purity

Bloom in abundance

In an old tin pail

On my veranda

They are a reminder of

When love bloomed,

In the depths of winter

We didn’t expect it,

You, nor I

The instant warmth

That became heat

And quickly love,

With an earnest

Commitment to try

We did try

And we rejoiced

In the gift bestowed

Upon us

For the years we had

I will always have roses

Like the ones you brought

To a man under the weather

The day after meeting

For the first time

Your arrival at my door

With sweet nervousness

And genuine concern

Touched me deeply

And still does to this very day

Alas, despite careful tending

Roses, and love,

Don’t always survive

The elements

That batter away at them

These blooms will fade

And the petals will drop

As fall turns into

The season it all began,

One night in a piano bar

That doesn’t mean

I can’t relive such beauty

Each and every year

Their time may have passed

But spring will come again

And I will remember the music….

Another poem. I hope you like this one... thanks for reading.

I loved that story, Gary, and I really enjoyed this poem. They complement each other, which is not that surprising perhaps.  ;)

Thanks, northie. I was surprised Our Bar went over as well as it did. This is my third poem in three weeks, and I've written a few thousand words on another story in the last week that has been sitting around for ages. I can't write for long yet, but the fire appears to be gaining some height. :)  Cheers... Gary....

I really like your metaphor of the roses, and the way it makes it’s way through the poem. It’s beautiful and wistful, too.

I agree with Northie.  It's a great companion piece to "The Bar".  The roses are a living reminder of something that may have withered, but still flourishes fondly in memory.   It reminds me of a poem I read in high school, but I can't recall the name of it.

Love like roses sometimes flowers for far too short a time and yet their memory lingers ...

Thanks, Val. I'm pleased you liked it. After I wrote Our Bar, the poem I was going to write still niggled at me...  it turned out a little differently, but has the same sentiment, and yellow mini roses have a very special place in my heart.

Ain't that the truth, dugh. :)  But neither one is any less beautiful for their fragility, and yeah, the memories should be treasured... and they are. Thanks for reading and commenting, bro.

I can see the roses, and as always I rejoiced at the dash of hope/ optimism/spring in the end.

Thanks, Adi! There is sadness here, but this poem comes from a good place. It can take some time to appreciate our journeys, but life is about enjoying our blessings for as long as we have them. I'm glad you can see the roses, and rejoice.

Life is a cycle, with a beginning and an end.

Love follows suit, whether romantic or for a friend.

We want forever, when our heart is engaged.

Thinking goodbye is with our last days.

But seasons come and seasons go

Season, reason or lifetime, relationships flow.

Whether tended with affection or afflicted by rejection

Memories remain, of laughter and pain

Brought back by sight or scent

Emotion flavored sentiment.

Just a little ditty to let you know

I really, really liked

your worded flow.         🍻

This is beautiful. I knew you were a poet.  It is much more than a little ditty, my friend. Thanks for leaving so lovely a comment.

I like it--especially since it joins two of my favorite things, writing and roses.  I've tried growing these before, and failed every time, but at least I had a few successful loves bloom for a time.  Still, the beauty of a rose is eternal, as is the memory of Love.

You could always get mini potted roses. They will give you blooms all summer long as long as you fertilize. I use Miracle Gro. Same with love, if you look after it... feed it... and appreciate it while you have it.

This had a nice feel. I enjoyed your word choices and descriptions. Is it a little autobiographical? Thanks.

Thanks, Jeffrey, and yes, I must admit that it is. I appreciate you reading and sharing your thoughts. I don't know if you ever read Our Bar, but this is a companion piece to that little story. I think you might enjoy it. :)
