Light & Dragonflies: Nature Poems/Love Poems - 14. Dreaming big

.

Fragen trotzt den träumen Willen groß

Glauben tastet himmelhohe Wege

blutig betet Sehnsucht ihre Knie

Wünschen weht verlassen wanken Wind

Wissen zerrt durch erdenfurches Sorgen

Sinnlos stirbt Geboren

biert den Tod

Wanken nestelt Stehn

des Blutes Sterne strotzen

jauchzen träumt die Seele

nirgend – irgendhin

Unanswered questions taunt dreaming big

Faith blindly gropes for paths that are sky-high

while the best of ruddy desires pray

on knees as if swaying in the wind

Knowledge drags itself through our earthly woes

which, born needless, soon die

bearing death

while wavering coddles

blood felled full of cosmic stars

which dreaming souls may tout

nowhere – not anywhere

Here are earthy adjectives employed for cosmic questions. Wind, blood, ruddy desires - each propels the reader into deeper thought. Thank you for this translation.

Thank you, Parker. As I think I've stated elsewhere, rhetorical-style poems -- like the one above -- are very rare from Expressionist poets. Although they embraced 'archaic' forms for their work (like the Italian Sonnet), they eschewed the old poetical practice of asking or stating unanswerable questions. I suppose they thought life itself was unaccountable enough on its own, and primarily focused on painting the situations as they found them
