Quigley was alone in the Burn Throne’s cockpit. Finnow and Riah were asleep together in the back of the ship as it rocketed through hyperspace. The vessel’s cavitation engine timer was counting down, and there was less than an hour of flight time before they would arrive in Boullia Bay.

In the peaceful moment by himself, Quigley’s thoughts spun with everything that had happened. What started for him as a fairly routine hunt had spiraled into his family’s abduction by Fonith, before they were captured by the Deathian, leading him to go on a seemingly impossible rescue mission. Golvinte was dead, and even though Quigley had not known the fellow bounty hunter, it broke Quigley’s heart that the man had given his life helping save Finnow and Riah.

Then when Quigley finally returned home, to find the entire community obliterated, he was overwhelmed. Sitting there alone, everything from the past several days hit him hard. Tears suddenly streamed from his eyes and a sob choked him. Quigley’s life as a bounty hunter had not turned out the way he imagined when he was a child.
