Never Cry Wolf - 1. Days 1 to 7

I.

Fool: Stupid, silly, harmlessly deranged?

Or just a person who enjoys something too much?

Fool: Hoodwinked, mocked, played, tricked?

Or just a dessert of pureed fruit mixed with cream?

II.

Only a thin line,

A hint of yellow and green,

Will soon spring open.

III.

Black leather, smooth and worn,

molded around me in years.

I feel as anew born,

now the first outing nears.

You are waiting for me,

looking so hot in your gear.

Eyes are shining with glee,

I’m so happy we’re queer.

Soon we are on the road,

long, gray bands slicing green.

Spring sun, the world seems slowed,

as we speed past the scene.

A day spent with you, out,

I am left with left no doubt.

IV.

Tired,

I am hovering over my head.

Tired,

my eyelids as heavy as lead.

Tired,

my skin feels paper thin, spread.

Tired,

damn I have to go to bed!

V.

I’m followed by a spotlight, beams are seeking me,

and though the lamps are shuttered, I can feel their heat,

the iridescent green is what I loved to see,

a pair of red lips bow-shaped by a smile, so sweet.

But if you want, I stay clear, avoid your place,

turn around, look away when we meet in town,

I’ll keep silent, no smile will appear on my face.

What if I die inwardly, you won’t feel me drown.

If you want, I come over and bang at the door,

wait for you to take courage and invite me in,

sing you songs, read you poems, and stories. What more

can I offer, for I want to make your head spin?

VI.

Ratatouille is what it will be today,

Green, red, and yellow pepper, come out to play.

Onions, garlic, aubergines and potatoes,

Zucchini, thyme, basil, tomatoes.

Get the pan, pull out the spoon,

And the dish will be ready to taste at noon.

VII.

Trying to find you in all that you won’t say,

as you swallow back the liquor in your glass,

our eyes lock, our breath holds, two heartbeats pass,

then you’re gone, the door shuts, and I stay.

I remember everything, who we used to be,

who we are now, and I switch the light off,

even though we reached the trough,

there will never be a way up, never be a ‘we’.

Gosh Adi, that's a very successful bouquet! From lunch to dinner and then an after dinner drink that's not all that happy. I think you did a brilliant job!!!

(vi) Oh dear - I had to miss lunch! Wonderful.
(vii) The desolate loneliness of the speaker haunts me. Beautifully written and moving.

Such a variety... I love it! You evoked a lot of different emotions - hunger, laughter, sadness. I look forward to week two!

I. Wow, so cleaver to use the food item known as 'fool' in contrast with the other sense of fool. Makes me both hungry and embarrassed to be the 'Gooseberry Fool' that I am.

II. Has me seeing Forsythia, and remembering all too well how it's the first color of spring.

III. Beautiful image; a Gay classic.

IV. The way I feel way too often.

V. A proposal on a dance floor…? I like the 'I'll go away or pursue you' vibe; quite mysterious.

VI. …what, you put Basil in the ratatouille…? * runs screaming from the room *

VII. Sad images…

I need to read them all again, but numbers 3,5, and 7 made me tear up. They were absolutely beautiful.

Of course I loved the one about being tired, as I can relate so well!

You have such a knack for poetry, Addy! I'm looking forward to more! :)

Thank you, Lisa! I think I wrote the one about being tired after we both complained about the week we had. :)
