Never Cry Wolf - 3. Days 15 to 21

XV.

He leans against the bar,

drowns out all the love songs in the world,

it’s only short, hard beats for him now.

Messy kisses, fingers digging into flesh, zippers hiss,

Sweat, beer, body wash, and musk,

Warmth, brief joy found in a stranger’s arms,

Before he fades back into the faceless crowd.

XVI.

Hidden behind a thin veil of gold,

Revealed through a light tug,

Lies a true sight to behold,

Better than any drug.

Dark brown, liquidly filled,

Caught in one satisfying bite,

glorious salted caramel spilled,

And a dreadful day becomes bright.

XVII.

A curtain of rain,

Tiny drops refract the light,

a rainbow comes out.

XVIII.

The spotted tiger can only hear sun light,

But he can’t smell his mate’s song.

He runs out the door, ears flat in fright,

Because he knows, something is terribly wrong.

White fur, blinding bright,

A polar bear greats him, his voice strong:

“Soon everything will again be right,

those who don’t belong will be finally gone.”

XIX.

I throw a pebble into the still lake,

when it touches, it sends out circular waves,

as did your word, made my whole body shake,

to hear it again is all that it craves.

My fingers open, I release the sphere,

when it strikes, it pushes the last to leap,

as did your word, made my frozen heart cheer,

hearing it ensured for my peaceful sleep.

I said the word for the first time to you,

You held your breath and your body went still,

Your eyes inquired if it really was true,

Yes, I do love you and I always will.

Years ago one mistake, my temper flared,

Years ago one word wrong, alone, scared.

XX.

Sonnenstrahlen die

den eiskalten Morgen

wärmen sind Frühling.

Rays of sunshine

which can warm up an icy

cold morn are called spring.

XXI.

Sometimes

I catch a word, a phrase, a thought,

Twirl it around my finger,

Pluck at it,

Stretch it,

Squeeze it into a ball,

Throw it into the air

Let it bounce off my knee,

Snatch it,

Flick it away,

Play.

Chapter Comments

XV. This is visceral, reflexive. I can't help reacting, anticipating, wanting, and fading too.
XVI. Yum. A perfect tribute.
XVII. How concisely you describe a rainbow...lovely.
XVIII. Oh, how terrifying your description, how chilling. Those who don't belong...
XIX. This made me tremble for the mistakes I make, the words that escape my lips unexamined. And yet you loved, and your description is beautiful.
XX. Danke. Sehr beautiful...
XXI. I loved this one. At play with words, the poem bounces with perfect description. It is awesome!

Nineteen is so true. Sometimes it feels as though an errant word or phrase completely changes things. Twenty-one is also good. Again, it's about how words play a role in our lives. Sometimes it's a game and sometimes it becomes real. Very powerful.

Thank you, Cole! Sometimes I'm afraid to talk at all, especially if it isn't my native language. But then I hope for forgiving hearts and the power of emoticons. ;)

I love this selection, Addy. The first one is just plain hot  . The chocolate one makes me want to go to the chocolate store down the street. lol I also really liked the last one. It was nice reading the German one too, even if I don't understand the language (thanks for the translation) :)

I'm glad you liked my selection, Val. Even though I had so little time, there was always something that caught my interest. Thank you for reading and commenting. :)

Adi! Such a variety and all beautifully done. From hot love, to tigers and chocolate to bouncing wonderful words all covered with a rainbow. I cannot select a favourite, because they all have to be my favourite. They each speak with a voice of their own. Thanks Adi, it’s a pleasure to read these.

Thank you, Tim! Great praise! I'm happy you liked them.
