Sidewinder

   (30 reviews)

Life in the Old West was harsh. The work was hard, but the men were harder, and death.... well... it came easy. Boone had no one until he met Coy, a handsome cowboy with a good heart. Their friendship was quickly formed, and meant everything to him, but after five years of being at each other's side, it was time to move on. Coy didn't need him anymore, and Boone wanted someone made like he was. Finally accepting that was never going to be Coy, and tired of being rootless, he sets out to find a home... land that was his, and a place he could belong. Coy? Left on his own, what path will he take?

What was life like for a gay man in the Old West? Westerns are not a popular genre, but this author grew up on them, and I wrote this for me. This is my second story set in these times, and I wanted to explore how these men coped... how they survived, and what the attitudes of the times were. A lot of research went into this, but the trappings of the story are only a small part of it. This is a simple human drama about wanting what we all want... to stay alive, have a place to call our own, and someone to share it all with. Sometimes, it's just a dream....

I, for one, keep searching for stories set in the West and am so pleased you have written another story in this genre. Not only do I enjoy the genre but I enjoy your writing as well. Keep 'em coming. And thanks.

Thanks, starboardtack! It's nice to have another Western fan. Finding Refuge was one of my favorite stories to write, and I always wanted to write another Western... this was my therapy for dealing with pandemic isolation. :)  Thanks for the encouragement!

I'm glad you did too, Onim! It's been a fun journey for me as well, and it's not quite over yet. One more Sidewinder Monday to come. :D  I'm glad you liked Blue... I have a fondness for animals who can be difficult. My mare is miserable, until I put her halter or bridle on and start doing something with her. Then she becomes the sweetest creature in the land. :)  And yeah, old man Corker quickly became a favorite of mine. I love when characters come to life. Cheers and thanks, my dear friend.

Well, saddle up there, pardner, and hitch up your gitalong. Time's a wasting. :P

I got the gitalong hitched up and went out for a slow ride.  That didn't happen....once again.  I try hard to savor the chapters, but always start binging as I get caught up in the story.  I'm blaming it all on you!  Your great stories thwart my good intentions every time.  Now I'm off to Larkspur, but this time I won't be struggling to go slower.  That's a lost cause for me, so I'll go with the story flow.

Lol. I'll take the blame, no problem. :)  Thanks for all the support, and I'll try to keep up with your binge pace on Larkspur. Remember to hydrate. :P
