Musings of a Wordsmith - 13. Carpe Diem

Again, a little bit of "poetherapy", managing feelings, experiences... learning to jump out of the darkness.

Here and now, carpe diem,
focused on what really is,
not on remote pipe-dreams.

An unstoppable smile
whenever Here and Now
bring peace, love, harmony:
How easy is it to accept
what the heart yearns for.

An ineffaceable grimace
whenever Here and Now
bring chaos, pain, sadness:
How hard is it to accept
what cruelly scorches the soul.

Equilibrium.

To not lose yourself
in peace, love, harmony:
to keep your hand steady on the helm.

To not flounder in sorrow
in chaos, pain, sadness
whenever the wind of change veers.

To accept feelings which come and go,
to be the helmsman in the storm,
a master in the journey of life.

Chapter Comments

You set up two poles, one of joy and one of being lost, and then masterfully contrast one with the other. Your equilibrium in poetry writing shows wonderfully well here. Your theme gives one both pause and reason to hope

I really like how you steer this poem between joy and pain, celebration and sorrow. Somehow, I’m minded of Sylla and Charybdis.
