2011 - Summer - Walk on the Wild Side Entry

The Midnight Hour - 1. The Midnight Hour

It was the midnight hour here in the wood not a human sound to be heard,

I held my breath, listening to the noise of the wild.

Looking up to the black sky filled with stars, a bat catches my eye,

Rustling all around me, from the tops of the trees blowing in the breeze.

A little lower to a branch where an owl hooted softly,

Even lower to the roots thrust deeply into the soil.

Looking one way then the other as night creatures came to life,

The sound of snuffling as a badger rooted for grubs,

A female fox, chastising her young to behave, but always ignored,

Watching a spider crawl over my hand “hello there,” I smiled,

A tiny shrew its tapering nose twitching as it smelled the air,

The scent of wild garlic was filling my nose pungent but sweet.

Then to the ground under me, soft and warm, heated by my skin,

How much wilder could anyone ever possibly be?

Rolling onto my back, and laughing at the wonders around me,

Life didn’t get any better than this nothing could surpass.

Why was I so happy? I was completely naked you see?

So a peaceful night out. The wonders of nature. You snuggled up in you den and naked to boot. Well Mark never took you for a new Pan. Hmm. You have a bit of a wild side there.

:great:

I can sooo see that. I would love to do that but knowing me I would get a twig up the arse and covered with bat poo. A beautiful, peaceful, gentle piece of writing. Sweet.

I canna be faffed with poetry. But for some reason, I think its the lack of pretension, I could read urs all the day long. It just, I dunno ... soothes and calms are the wrong words ... its more that they even out the corrugations of life somehow. Thats the mental feeling I get ... thats syneasthesia for you! But, thank you! xx

I'm going to stick with enjoying the animal visualizations. They were great, could definitely feel the warmth and the quiet and the nature all around, I've had summer nights like that. Memory supplied the warm soil smell, leaves, the musk of tree bark. That's as far as I'm going in visualizing though... no naked peoples allowed!! ;) I'm not great at getting poetry but your imagery was quite well done.

Loved it, got to be comfy with who we are, and what we’ve got. Nothing better too, in some long soft grass in the summer sunshine, with a gentile warm breeze blowing, taking it all in, and not giveing a F, loved you’re story thanks John
