Believe - 3. Chapter 3
SIAM POV
What the hell just happened?" was the first thing that came out of my mouth. Finding Rusty in my arms was a good thing but he was exhausted like he had just ran a marathon all over the world and then some.
I can't remember how he ended up in my arms, I didn't like not knowing things I thought were important and Rusty was important to me.
“We ran here the moment we felt an intruder on the pack lands but when we got here you were protecting the intruder and you wouldn't even calm down when your dad commanded you to do so. The only reason your dad didn't send us away was because if he did, you'd see us as prey and you'd hunt us down. I'd never seen you like this and it was shocking to say the least. Then he walks up to you and suddenly you're calm. You had gone mad Si, and he brought you back,” my pack brother Cuan said. He was the youngest member of the pack but he was the only one who could speak to me like a real person even though he knew I had a bad temper.
The other wolves all nodded their heads in according with what he said. All I wanted to do right then was tell them that it wasn't possible. I was only 18 years old for crying out loud. I couldn't go mad. I was going to say something when I saw the look in my dad's eyes. What I saw in those eyes affirmed what Cuan had said and I was glad Rusty had brought me back.
“Let's head back home; then I want all of you gathered in the common house.” My dad had spoken and everyone except Cuan changed into their wolf forms, and took off towards the inlands.
“Si, do you need help carrying him?” he asked.
He knew that I could carry rusty's body and still run a marathon but he wanted to be useful to me. He always tried to help me in one way or another; he was like the little brother my mum never gave birth to. I winced when I thought about the almost fight and how I could have injured him. Out of all my pack siblings, he was my favorite.
I hesitated My first instinct was to keep him in full sight away from any male or female wolf, but I quickly removed that thought from my head. Cuan was my closest friend and brother. We were practically twins if not for the fact that he was born six months after my birthday. More so I had nothing to fear as Cuan was already mated to my partner in crime Tate.
“Sure, why not, just please be careful,” I said handing rusty over to him. I immediately regretted warning him because he then had this hurt look on is face. I knew Tate would curse me if he was here. Tate hated seeing Cuan hurt, almost as most as I hated being the one doing the hurting.
“Sorry I didn't mean anything by saying that. It's just that... I don't know what it is,” that was all I could say for an explanation, but he seemed to understand. He stopped looking hurt and smiled at me. I then handed Rusty over to him and watched as he gently wrapped his hand around his frame
“ It's okay Si, I understand. He's your mate and you want to protect him,”he said as he turned and ran off after the others. I almost called him back. Almost being the key word. I couldn't help but worry about my red wolf but I knew he was in good hands. Then it hit me. Cuan had just called Rusty my mate and I hadn't said anything yet.
I kept staring after them even after I couldn't see them anymore. My dad came to stand by my side and we just stood there, not saying anything. I knew he was just waiting for me to start blabbing the way I usually did when I felt guilty and I wouldn't disappoint him.
“I'm sorry dad, thank you,”was all I could say after five minutes. My dad didn't say anything, he just turned, looked at me and started laughing. I was so shocked; I thought he'd gone mad now.
“Oh Siam, I'm not mad at you at all, although I must admit that you shocked the hell out of me when you wouldn't calm down, even after I spoke to you.”
He put his hand over my shoulder and that set us in motion. He then became nostalgic and proceeded to tell me all about how he had acted when he met my mom for the first time. How all he wanted to do then, was pick her up, toss her over his shoulders and get out of the diner where she worked. How he couldn't stop himself from growling at all the men who spoke to her. How he had to be escorted out of the diner by his friend and how later that night, he had gone back and asked for her hand in marriage to which she had answered “how about my number?”.
By now we had arrived at the house. He was just about to tell me what he did to a guy who had been stupid enough to ask mom out in front of him, when mom came out of the house still in her apron.
“Siam, darling, are you alright?” she asked as she checked me all over. Anyone who wasn't with us, out at the clearing would have thought there'd been an actual fight the way she was going over my body, looking for scars or wounds to treat.
“I'm fine mom, how's …?
“He's fine” she said interrupting me and causing dad to snicker. “I put him to bed in the room right next to yours and you can go see him after you put on some clothes and eat.” she spoke as she ushered me and my snickering father into our boarding house.
What I call a boarding house is more like a family house than anything. It was built to house the alpha family and any wolf who needed a place to stay by my great-granddad. It had a total of fourteen bedrooms equipped with their very own en suite bathrooms. Every young wolf had a room in house and later had a house of their own when they found their mate or when they could live on their own. It helped the pack bonds and we considered each other brothers and sisters.
I ran up the stairs to my room and quickly put on some clothes before running down to grab a sandwich and then I headed to where rusty lay peacefully surrounded by white cotton sheets that made him appear real pale. I stood at the door admiring him and I would have stayed their if my mum hadn't coughed.
“They are already gathered” she said as she walked passed me and sat down on the chair next to the bed.
“Thanks mum” I said, leaning down to give her a kiss on her cheek causing her to blush. She could probably bench press a truck, but say something sweet to her and she'd blush. As I was about top leave the room she called me back.
“Si, I'm glad you found him. I can't wait to welcome him to the family”
Now things were getting strange. First Cuan and now mom. I wanted to ask how she knew he was my mate when I hadn't even announced it yet. But she didn't give me the chance to do so before she began shooing me out of the room.
“Run along now, don't keep them waiting”
I left the room after hugging her and headed towards the common house. It was situated right next to the main house so it didn't take me long to get there. Everyone was already gathered in the room, they all turned to look at me the moment I entered. I hated the attention I was receiving right now and they all knew this. I walked to my seat which was right next to my dads' and sat down.
Cuan and Tate then stood up and came to stand right behind to me. No one thought anything of this because that's the way we've always been. Cuan always to my right and Tate to my left. I was grateful for this because with them by my side, I was able to remain calm and not fidget. Tate was what you'd call my partner in crime. He is older than me by two years but we were two peas in a pod. We were more brothers than best friends and he never failed to be straight with me.
My dad chose that moment to enter the room along with Convel, his Beta. He looked around the room, and then settled his eyes on me.
“Many of you know the reason for this emergency meeting. I am grateful to you all for the way you reacted to a supposed threat and I hope you'd always act that way to protect our lands from our enemies. For those of you who weren't there, know that it was a false alarm. We have a stray on our lands but he is not a rogue and thus he is in no way a threat to us . He is asleep right now, but I want you all to treat him with respect and welcome him with open arms,” my dad said as he walked to his seat.
“If I may ask, why is the stray not here right now but sleeping? I mean who is he that wandered onto our land? And how can we be sure he is harmless when he hasn't passed before the consul?” Blaez said. Blaez was Cuan's elder brother and he was Tate's best friend.
“Because he is weak and needs his rest, brother. I'm sure the consul will prefer a wolf in sound mind to a weak wolf who could collapse before they even had the chance to ask him one question” Cuan answered and I was grateful because I didn't know how to respond to Blaez without growling. Every member of the consul nodded their heads in agreement and even Blaez seemed satisfied with Cuan's answer.
My dad placed his hand on my shoulder and calmed me down without me even realizing it.
“Blaez, I am Alpha and I would never put my family in danger. So trust me when I say he is harmless. That is all for today. You are now free to do as you please but don't forget tonight's barbecue. If you do, my wife will have your hides and I won't stop her.”
Everyone laughed and got up but we all stopped when we heard someone shout. I knew who it was and I rushed out of the room faster than anyone, who had the devil chasing him.
He was shouting in his sleep, my mum was trying to help him calm down but it wasn't working. I ran towards them with my mum telling me to stay back, that he was out of control. I couldn't care less if he was becoming big-foot. I took him in my arms and started whispering small nonsense into his ear and he instantly calmed down.
I then noticed the shocked faces of everyone that had come upstairs with me and I tried to let him go. But the moment I stopped embracing him, he started shouting and crying like he was in pain. I couldn't bear it so I laid down on his bed with him still in my arms. My brothers all came in and I knew then that I'd have to explain, but before I could even do that, Blaez came to the right conclusion.
“He's your mate,” he said looking at me with eyes that pleaded with me to say it wasn't true. I knew he was going to suffer because of this, but there was nothing I could do. He and I had been in a relationship up until a month ago and he was still hurting from our breakup. I wanted to tell him it was his fault, tell him that if he hadn't cheated on me, we'd still be together, but that was a lie I just couldn't tell.
“Yeah he is. I was gonna wait till he woke up before saying something.”
“Are you sure he is the one?” Blaez asked with tears in his eyes. Cuan took his brother's hand in his and replied to him.
“Don't you notice that they have the same smell? They complete each other just like Tate and I. They are true mates brother,” he said as he hugged his brother.
Blaez looked at me and despite his hurt, smiled reminding him why I first became attracted to him. When he smiled at someone, the person instantly felt all warm and loved inside. He knew I didn't believe in love, but he was confident that he could make me change my mind about it. But I didn't and we were still happy until he cheated on me.
I smiled back at him, knowing that while he'd hurt for a while, he'd eventually get over me.I prayed that he find his true mate and find happiness. He knew what a precious thing true mates were and would have stepped aside even if we'd still been together. He was still hurting but all the tension that existed between the two of us for the past month faded away
“Alright everyone, let's leave them to rest,” he said,to assure everyone that he was okay as he turned to leave the room.
Everyone left the room after saying their congratulations leaving only rusty, me, Tate and Cuan. They took the chair my mom had been sitting in when I left her earlier on. Tate was kissing Cuan's neck while I stroked rusty's hair.
“What's his name?” Cuan asked in between breaths and kisses, making me laugh. I was always amazed at how he became putty in Tate's hands when he was more dominant that him.
I was about to tell them I didn't know since I hadn't had the time to talk to him before, with all the drama and stuff that happened, but I didn't get the chance to.
“My name's Boris Faden,” he said, starling us all as we hadn't noticed his breathing change to alert us of his awakening.
“My name's Siam Leidolf and they are Tate Kerr and Cuan Iver. Welcome to the East Midlands Tundar pack.”
