I hope I do justice to the spirit of Carlos, whom I respected very much.

A Man For All Ages - 1. Chapter 1

Much implied, but no warning is necessary.

A Man For All Reasons

A man is born, and his destiny

is life’s challenge to lead.

The love and care of family

helped his journey to succeed.

A warrior of his culture.

He taught us all acceptance,

for as he fought for the future,

we also received a chance.

A wizard and a wanderer;

the magic in his words

took us places to ponder

life’s lessons to be heard.

A mentor and taskmaster.

His voice was there to guide

so many facing disaster

were told to KISS and tried.

A man who mingled with many.

A Hog between his legs

could charm the pants of men he,

deemed pleasing to engage.

A Renaissance inventor.

Blending tradition with the new,

he bent rules with fervour,

challenging our world anew.

King of Cliffs

He leaves him in Sturges

surrounded by bankers, now bikers,

dressed in leather jackets,

big hogs between their legs.

What’s a lad to do

seeing lustful looks stare?

When they make their next move,

the handsome youth just glares.

Is this stunning one receptive?

Does he stand up to their lust?

Or, will he make them eat dust?

No, the author’s friends are amative.

The writer has thrown us off the cliff,

without a breath of hesitation.

As we nightmarishly fall,

no quick rescue for us at all.

The end of wild speculations?

Or will angst now rule?

Readers suffer the twisted fate,

hearing the phantom laugh, evil incarnate.

Armed with tar and feathers;

deathly cliffhangers crash down,

while the author’s lips are sealed

and hide a knowing smirk.

Shit! He’s dying!

End of chapter.

“I love you.”

Will he hear it back?

Did you hear the small snicker,

the evil, even louder giggle?

Behind crowds armed with pitchforks,

The King of Cliffies’ laughter becomes a roar.

He rocked our world

and left us rolling.

“How could you?”

Carlos: “You should have known.”

Thank you for writing these. Both are terrific - I especially like King of Cliffs. I've enjoyed reading some of the banter in the comment sections of the CJ stories between Carlos and his readers. He was unapologetic and gleeful if I'm reading them correctly.

Thank you, Lucretia.  I appreciate your comment, and I feel great that you liked both poems.  Like you, I felt Carlos got great joy responding to readers' comments.  His honest and unapologetic comments were refreshing and interesting.

Kudos, Terry. These are good poems and spot on for the tribute. Some interesting phrases and reflections that engaged me. Engaging the reader was something Carlos was very good at, and I believe he would have appreciated both of these.

I'm so glad there is poetry here in the tribute... Carlos wasn't a big fan of it, but prose is really not so different, and these were apropos. :)  Well done, my friend.

Just a note: I wanted and planned to write something for this--possibly poetry as well--but with being ill for such a stretch, having tragedy strike my family, and already posting a story, it all became too much. It makes me happy that many took up the cause for a man who is greatly missed.

Not sure how your contribution escaped me @raven1, but I’ve just found it.  Well done.  I just loved this line especially:

What’s a lad to do

seeing lustful looks stare?

🥰

great stuff.

Many thanks, Gary! The fact you comment is the most important thing to me.  I was channelling the CJ-verse when writing this poem.  I think that both Carlos and his alter ego CJ were often surrounded by potentially dangerous people, most of them his friends. 😄

Hey, Buddy! I appreciate your support and this great comment.  Carlos wasn't a great fan of poetry, but knowing he would have appreciated this tribute is very affirmative.  I tried to evoke some of the fun and naughtiness of CJ and his friends.  I think that Carlos might like that in any form of writing.

I know that you have had some difficult times lately, but I hope that next New Year, @Valkyrie will once again give writers a chance to pay tribute to Carlos.  Hopefully, you will be able to write something then.  BTW, I am following Bearpaw and loving it!
