Being Cam - 16. November 1st

Walking into my room that night, I found pictures on my nightstand just like the other dance. On top was a bright, green post-it note stuck to the most beautiful picture I had ever seen.

I’m so proud of the man you’re becoming. Love, Mom.

The moment we walked through the door, Mom snapped the picture. Our backs to her, just the silhouette of our bodies. Hands interlocked. Light streaming out from the dance and a crowd of people facing us with smiles plastered on their faces. I could make out Emma and Isaac in the background clearly whooping and hollering. It was magical and finally I felt right. I felt okay.

Being 13 wasn’t so bad. Sure I didn’t know anything still, but I experienced so much already. Maybe I was demi. Maybe I was gay. Maybe I just loved Nate.

Whatever it was I had my whole life to figure things out. Right now I was happy.

And that was all that mattered.

Cute story with a strong writing style. The story, and especially the ending could have been developed more, especially since the journal gimmicks was (thankfully) abandoned. Overall a delightful yarn that is just fine on its own but could be something really special if expanded.
