Last Light - 12. Chapter 12

Chapter 12
Death Card
Mike opened his eyes and found that he was no longer in Empress Kelsey’s arms. She was on the floor, like everyone else. The spell worked. The Queen of the Forest’s spell worked. Allison woke up and looked over at Mike. She jumped up and bounded into his arms. She told him that she loved him. Mrs. Snow shook her head brushing off the dirt from a pile of wreckage. Then Chase and TJ woke up. They looked at each other and were happy that the other was still alive. Alec woke up next to Naomi, who was still unconscious.
“What happened?” Mike asked
“You did it, you saved us,” Alec said.
“Yeah, I got that, but how?” He replied.
Allison answered, “Love, you loved each of us somehow, and you didn’t want to see us get hurt. So you sacrificed yourself to help us, totally sweet of you.”
Mike looked at Jessant, who just sat up. She looked into his eyes and wondered why she didn’t die. She was half vampire; the spell would have killed her. Then Naomi sat up. She looked at Alec and kissed him. Jessant shook her head in repulsion. TJ and Chase were holding hands as the group opened the doors to the outside. The group walked into the street and breathed a sigh of relief. There was a breeze and, more importantly, the sun was out.
