Last Light - 5. Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Training
The next week was full of the VHSSV finding a suitable creature for the beginning of training. Alec gave the kids a lesson everyday about vampires. They learned about the poison, fangs, transformation, and reports of sightings.
Mike walked to the ringing phone and answered it in the droning tone he usually uses, “Hello…uh huh…yeah…the church?…okay…love you too…bye! Father, I’m going to CJC! Bye!” Mike flashed out the door and walked to the church. As he was walking to the Church of Jesus Christ, the sky exploded into a pitch-black darkness. Mike knew this meant a wave of blood sucking fiends were on their way. A buzzing sound filled the air and droves of mosquitoes busted from every tree, bush and flower. Allison ran out of her house, and TJ joined them. Allison raised her palms to the sky, TJ pulled out his stave and Mike drew his sword from the sheath. Allison said a word and a ball of fire started to jet from her hands. The stave started to spin a disc of green energy. Mike’s sword began to revolve around the triangle, creating a yellow ribbon of light.
The mass of bugs traveled to the circle of energy and the group focused harder. Suddenly, the magic popped, killing all the insects and sending the darkness into light. The group rans to the church, where they found nothing was there.
Alec appeared out of no-where as if he were walking out of a building, “Hurry, into the church.”
“What church? There isn’t anything here but us,” Allison screamed.
“No, it is there,” Mrs. Snow walked out of the invisible church, “It just isn’t visible to the eyes that aren’t trained to see it.”
“Whatever! Who cares? Why are we here?” TJ said with incredible anger.
Another person walked out of the church, “Training. I am Jessant. My rules: Do not touch me if you like your hands, don’t talk to me unless I speak to you and do not ask about my past. EVER! Mike, I shall be your trainer. Tyler, your trainer will be Naomi, a master of the staff. Now! Follow me or you won’t see tomorrow.” She walked toward the same place she entered and drew her sword. It was a narrow blade, obviously folded many times, with a crimson hilt. The three of them followed the teacher into the church. A magnificently painted ceiling adorned the sanctuary. Tears of chandeliers dripped off the artwork. An altar sat on the dais in the middle of the room. Candles covered it and there were four goblets sitting on each corner.
Jessant lead Mike away from the others and tried to hand him a sword but he drew his own and told her to put it away. A woman, who Allison guessed, was Naomi, greeted TJ He showed her his stave and she swung at him. To Allison’s surprise, TJ grabbed the stave before it hit him. Allison started to laugh imagining him lying on the floor after getting hit by his own weapon.
Alec appeared before Allison and asked, “Are you ready to get started? We will be working on spells to abolish the power of the vampires. The first one is called ‘Darenty’. It involves the light element and several drops of your own blood,” he continued, “First, focus your energy into making an energy with the same purity as fresh as mountain snow. After that, you will take an athame and cut your hand enough for some bleeding. Put your palm to the light and it will shoot to the vampire. The vampire will lose all power it has, light or dark. Got it?”
Allison remembered seeing something similar to this in a movie. She suspected it wasn’t real. She raised her hand and starts to do the banishing spell, when Alec stopped her, “No! Not here! You must know that if you do this spell in the presence of Jessant, she will lose her power. Her father is a vampire. She has worked so hard to control it. That is why she uses that sword. If she didn’t have that sword, she probably would be sucking Mike’s blood.” After saying that, Allison could not stop looking at Jessant and pitying her.
The doors of the church flew open and everybody but Jessant went into convulsions of shivering. Jessant and Naomi started to hover in the air and grab hands. The duo spun, like a vortex of impending doom, with their weapons facing out as they slaughter the vampire. The three just stared at Jessant and Naomi as they gracefully fell to their feet.
“That is what you will be able to do,” Naomi said panting, “When we are done with you.
