Writing Prompts #340 & #341

One of the great aspects of GayAuthors is the variety of ways that members can improve their writing, from various writing tips to the availability of editors and beta readers, to these - writing prompts that encourage authors to take a chance and see where a prompt may lead them. Based on the responses we've had in the past, these prompts have a tendency to take on a life of their own and really capture the imagination of both our fledgling as well as veteran authors.

This week, we've got two new prompts courtesy of PromptGuru comicfan - try one (or both) out and see what you may make of it, especially if you've never tried one before. But to get the full experience, share what you do create with the rest of the community by posting in the Writing Prompts forum or in Stories.

Prompt 340 – Creative
Tag – First Line
“There is no way I am going in there!”

Prompt 341 – Creative
Tag – Rings
With the passing of your last relative, a collection of rings has been handed down to you. At first you look at the old rings and figure you might be able to sell them. As you begin going through them you notice there is something different about them. What is it?

Last week, one of the prompts (#338), asked to write using the following words/phrases: "pregnant woman, hammer, blue jock strap, yellow flowers, and an apple". And oh my, will Wonders Never Cease...

Cassie held the small nail against the lattice work and tapped it with the hammer in her other hand. Hammering a little harder, she finally got the metal to pierce the wood. After a few more whacks, the two pieces of wood were nailed together. She silently cursed KC for knocking down Jo Ann’s lattice work last night while frolicking naked around the pool with his latest conquest. She hoped he had thorns in his ass for days to come. Digging in her pocket for another nail, she carefully matched two more pieces of the lattice together and started hammering firmly on the head of the nail. Hearing the back gate squeak as it opened, she did not even glance up from what she was doing.

“Yeah KC, I’m fixing your mess you made last night. You better be glad Jo Ann had to work this morning and didn’t see this.”

“I’m sorry. I don’t mean to disturb you. Is KC around?”

Cassie looked up from her work to see a pregnant young woman standing in front of her. She started hammering the nail into the wood again as she spoke. “If I’m lucky, he won’t be home until later. Why do you wanna know anyway? Has he been harassing your husband or something?”

“Actually, he’s the father of my baby.” The young woman spoke the words honestly and clearly.

Hitting her finger with the hammer Cassie exclaimed, “What the fuck did you say?”

Clearing her throat loudly the young woman repeated herself. “He’s the father of my baby.”

“Lady, I don’t know who you are or where you came from but are you sure you’re talking about KC?”

“I’m positive. When he comes home, would you tell him that I will be back tomorrow afternoon to discuss this with him?”

Cassie sat down in the grass from her squatting position and reached for the bottle of water beside her. “It’ll be my pleasure to tell KC. Can I offer you something cold to drink?”

“No, thank you. I have to go to a funeral in about an hour. I would love to have a bouquet of those beautiful yellow flowers though. My best friend’s mom loved yellow.” The young woman’s words surprised Cassie.

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you know it doesn't just end there  So check out the rest of this great prompt response from Joann414!

Great job Jo Ann! I was cackling over it.

Prompts are great imagination and writing exercises. I was suggesting to a new writer it's a great way to test the water and try new things.  Hopefully he'll try it out.

Hm. I always seem to be a bit of a prude. I wonder if that is a good thing or not?

Ha, that's true. The one time that I managed to get into one of these stories (was thrust), I managed to climb up a tree with Cole to get away. It seems that I have been most fortunate! lol

Hmmm, you two sound like you need to star in one of my prompts.  I'll see what I can do :o
