anime (japanese animation and shit)

okay, this might not cater to all people here on GA. But I know some of you are there. I know it, i can smell your fandom.

I know that anime existed when I was younger. I can't tell you how many pokemon i caught with ash katchup or whatever in like 6th grade.

From then on I'd watch adult swim and shit then stopped when I thought there was cooler stuff to do. I remember that there were people who were into it at school. As I grew up I found that there were tons of people who were into it. Mostly the movie genre (and after researching it LOL there are so many f**king movies)

(i'm going to drop titles below i'm sure most people will know them who enjoy the genre

Now, being completely honest. I thought it was stupid and gay like during high school (the president of the anime club was in one of my lab classes he'd always give us flyers and shit) So one like summer I went to block buster couldn't find anything and I went through their anime section bought 'Withering Continent'. If i remember correctly it was about a group of explorer's who discover this ancient city. It was f**king confusing but it was cool. From then I watched Vampire D with somebody who forced me to watch it, the hand that talks is weird. After that the guy who made me watch Vampire D f**ked me with Princess Mononoke. From then I watched Metropolis, Howls Moving Castle, Ponyo. All of which have been from an outsider influence. I was asked to go see Ponyo and Howls Moving Castle. Not on my own accord mind you.

Anyways, the past I guess week I've decided to like something I didn't like before (anime) and I checked Hulu.

Holy f**k

How do all the anime fans keep track? Especially when its in another language (that in itself I think is so f**king funny but I dunno if you understand it the way i do, maybe cause I'm stoned) Sure I've watched the occasional cowboy beepop on adult swim, but that is with multiple people and probably drugs and i have no real concept of the whole thing only that Japanese have nothing better to do than be boss at drawing.

So anyways I looked through the various I guess TV Shows, I thought they were all movies, or just long movies broken up into episodes to seem like episodes or a show. Whatever, so I've been watching 'X'. Right now I'm on episode 6 I think. I'm paying attention to everything immersing myself etc. It is in Japanese (i think Oo) and reading comments people have INTENSE discussions on the validity of the words and stuff when translated. like for instance in 'X' the definite comedic character is a young guy named Kouya, plus whoever does his voice has to be on something. Always hitting on this one girl who can pull a sword out of her hand (whhhat), he calls her missie all the time. Who says missie? Anyways my point was very drawn out. I'm pretty sure people have stopped reading right now.

But I wanted to share that. i get obsessed when I want to learn about something. but for those of you who did read and know about anime, what should I watch. Is everything fantasy/demons/angels/end of the world? Any gay stuff? Lol that would be weird, that was actually uncomfortable to write.also the music at the beginning and ending is really dumb.

bye

I watch Anime... I'm watching two shows on Hulu... The Lengend of the Legendary Heroes, thats a little weird... confusing. Then... this other show... I forget its name starts with an S. it's about vampires terrorizing this small town... both of these are subtitled... and they air in Japan and in the U.S. at the same time, there's a special word for it. I don't know it.

I'd also check out Youtube under it's shows, it has an Anime section with shows that Youtube has legal rights to. Gundam 00 is very good, I'm sure you've seen the older ones, but this show has a very good post 9/11 theme to it and it really makes you think. There's another show on there that I liked but I forgot its name.

I'm not sure if everything is fantasy/demons/angels/world end stuff, but the general stuff that I've watched tends to have those general themes.

Death Note is pretty good (read: really f**king brilliant). Only Anime i've ever gotten completely sucked into. No 'gay stuff' though

Edit: The show has an insanely large fanbase so the entire series has also been dubbed in English. If you're interested, I found a site with the entire series in english. I prefer the subtitles though. More accurate.

Disregard my comment, since I'm posting this below.

Neon Genesis Evangelion, Fullmetal Alchemist (2010), Code Geass, Death Note, Ghost in The Shell, Eureka 7 are among some of the most highest ranked anime series. You might want to also want to look at "Monster and Hellsing.

Note: "gay stuff" falls under the Yaoi category.

Death Note is ok. Bleach is good. Naruto is good. The first I ever watched was full metal alchemist, still one of my favs.

Enjoy!

Bleach and Naruto are my favorite. One Piece is pretty cool as well. It's really not hard to watch them in Japanese, because you learn to read and watch at the same time. Another show I saw a long time ago on Adult Swim was called Inuyasha. It was pretty cool, but it's over now. Witch Hunter Robin was decent as well.

I prefer watching anime with subtitles. English dubs just sound so much more awkward and the voices really annoy me. Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell, and Wolf's Rain are very excellent series to get into and at times can get very philosophical. Never watched Bleach and Naruto anime versions i prefer the mangas (graphic novels) personally so cant really comment on those. Many anime fans LOVE Death Note but I never understood why *shrug* . Like Caedus mentioned earlier "gay stuff" falls into the Yaoi category but you will be hard pressed to find anime like this on Hulu. Personally I dont really like Yaoi stuff, majority of manga/anime ive noticed in this genre tend to be about dom/sub relationships and that really annoys the crap out of me (and also Yaoi's main demographic happens to be straight females)

While not really gay/Yaoi there is an anime on Hulu named Nabari no Ou which I thought had a gay theme to it. Hikaru no Go is a series with no fantasy/demons/angels/end of the world theme. its simply based around the this real life game called "Go" something akin to chess. Majority of anime which are popular in US do have the above mentioned common themes but it also very diverse, just a matter of finding that odd series in the mix. Japanese people are FREAKING WEIRD. they are into the weirdest crap and sometimes make no sense (heard that one ad where they made a song about diarrhea? "I got a really bad case of diarrhea" sung in a funny voice FRELLING WEIRD!!!!) so their animes also tend to be weird at times but they do have ones dealing with regular issues/relationships/drama but due to US market wanting the action type they are the most advertised.

Dont know if i can link other sites here but i know of one website with links to many animes available to watch online.

Anyways im rabbling. I'll stop.

oh "ONE MORE THING" said in Uncle's voice (who am i referring to?) Naruto would be so much more awesome if Sasuke and Naruto just stop chasing each other, admit the love they have for each other, strip, and start bumping uglies.

and i actually like the opening and ending songs anime have. some are awesome, some are lame, some are just eh. I loved the ones Inuyasha had.

Most people have already given you the popular ones. Here are some oldies though: Dragonball Z, Samurai X (Ruruoni Kenshin is the Japanese title I think), Slam Dunk (basketball anime), and Captain Tsubasa (soccer/football anime).

Some weird ones that I sadly got addicted to are Cooking Master Boy (cooking), Saki (about the tile game mahjong), Yumeiro Patissiere (cooking)

A gay/yaoi that is PG-ish is Junjou Romantica. Most of the episodes can be found in youtube. Kyou Kara Maou is a fantasy one that has a slight yaoi feel to it.

I LOVE Anime... Yaoi is fantabulous and Hentai can be cool but can also be totally freaky.

I watch Naruta and One Piece all the time with my son and there are some beautiful scenes. The artwork is incredible and the music can be totall haunting. I agree about Naruto and Sasuke getting it together... especially their Shippuden versions.

Vampire Hunter D is totally awesome. I adore him...erm... it. I also love Inuyasha. Princess Mononoke is just beautiful and I am half in love with the dragon boy in Spirited Away.

Death Note is okay and I ove L but it got a bit boring after a while.

But no... I don't actually watch Anime at all :):P

anime is completely different than a regular "cartoon". its like comparing an Organic Chemistry textbook with Learn how to crosshatch selfhelp book.
