[Topher_Lydon] Book IV: The Balance of Judgment - Discussion thread

Ok, so Topher has demanded feedback, and I think we can manage to supply it to him! I highly encourage anyone who's read the book to come here and have a chat about it.

 

 

 

Obviously this thread is gonna contain spoilers, so if you haven't read TBOJ, and don't want to get spoiled, beware! Just in case, I'll use spoiler blackout stuff where necessary.

 

Ok, there are a few points I'd be interested in people's views on.

 

1) Who's the dude

in the hat? Do ya think he's an entirely new character, or someone we've seen before. I think he might well be one of two or three characters who we met in Queen of Ice, but I'm not 100% sure. Topher hasn't told me, so I genuinely don't know. What do people think?

 

 

2) Who's your favourite villain? I mean we have some really good candidates.

Lex? Lady Tagria? Sal-zyr? Rikard? Maybe Evans or Sephradon? Or even His Watchful Eye or the pack of clones - though I'm not sure either of them is exactly a villain (I love Duncan!). My personal favourite has to be Rikard. So smart, so urbane, and he thinks he's so unbeatable... yet at the end of the book he's stuck on a desert world and has compromised himself by having feelings for another human for the first time in... god knows how long. The man killed his own brother! Plus he makes me laugh (heh, pink slippers).

 

 

3). Who's on top

out of Katz and Kyr ?

 

So come on peeps, come chat with me. And suggest other things to talk about, too. I like the book and I want to discuss it in a highly nerdy fashion!

for me though, my personal fav is still Katz, he has a sense of approachability I just like...

the whole series is brilliant i actually finished reading tboj within 24 hours of it being available on lulu (i don't know how to rashon the good stuff) i just never post but.

In my opinion darien is still the best and his vulnaribility makes him more appealing.

although matthew is a very close second(sorry i can't call him edward)

as for villain's the gn-3's, i can't wait to see more of them.

I can't help myself... i had to pay for a download of the book... and of course, can't stop myself from reading the whole thing in a day even though i am suppose to be focusing on my exam....

in the hat? Isn't that the servant of the dying Polian from when they were doing the evac for Arcanis? Seem like that boy got much more confident and mysterious if it is...

Probably Duncan... Just because he seems to be so much smarter than the rest... But what I really want to see is him realizing that he is on the wrong side, and defect over the the Imperial side... Then he can be the son that Darien and Elias raise at the end ... even though it would be a little weird considering he is a clone of Elias

 

 

3). Who's on top

out of Katz and Kyr ? I think they take turn... but i really want to see a reunion of Katz and Alis... I don't think it count as unfaithful if one of the lover is assumed to be dead, right?

 

 

God... I hope the next book comes out soon... can't stand the suspension... Anyone know if the next book is the end of the series?? Actually, does anyone know when this book will end??

Hat is Ben from Queen of Ice, Sephradon and Katherine's brother. He went over to the Gorean, he is a GN-2, and we never saw him die on screen. The Gorean know Mr Hat, so maybe. And he seems to be able to see the future, which mr hat can. Thoughts?

I don't see it happening... mostly because Mr. Lydon seem like to keep the Queen of Ice Arc separate from the rest of the series... He often refer to what happened before, most likely part of the Queen of Ice storyline, but he never really write something that would force ppl to read the Queen of Ice to know what is going on...

Ugh. I haven't read the Queen of Ice yet. I probably should do that.

 

Just finished reading TBOJ and I loved it. A few things I'd like to comment on.

 

1. Anyone else thought it was funny that Katz, Kyr, Tagria, Rikard and Galadriel ended up on Krasnier? Z'Rael (which could very well be Rikard) and Krasnier were mentioned in one of the books that Wojciech was reading. Something about distortion of time and burning and whatnot.

 

2. Lauren. She betrayed Darien. I wonder what his reaction to her will be.

 

3. Kyr and Katz? While I like both characters, I'd prefer it if Katz went back with Allie.

 

4. What happened to Wojciech? I feel bad for the guy. Even though he did help in bringing about Excalibur's demise, I still like the guy.

 

5. OMG. Excalibur dead??

 

6. Rikard and Galadriel???

Excalibur was undoubtedly my favorite character. I know, it's a ship, but it play more of part throughout the series any other character, so her death made me cry. I just finished the book ten minutes ago and it still upsets me that she's gone. If you think about, Excalibur was the backbone of the story from start to finish. When Darien first heard of her, he went in search, coming across Lauren, Nazzien, and Shale... commandeering R-403, allying himself with Walker, then finding the Jump Nexus way out deep space that brought him to the defense platforms from the old Empire and VonGrippen's tomb. Out of all of the characters, Excalibur took the hardest hits and maintained the most steely resolve.

Now I have a silly question, but it's been nagging me ever since I read Book 4: who's the character on the cover? All the guys on the covers were easily identifiable, but that blonde guys...

Is it Elias again? or Katz? Or who else?

I know it's been a while since this has been written, but I am a new reader of Chris's books and having just finished book 4 and also thinking of Katz, Alessandro and Kyr and wondering who I'd like to see with whom-I'd love to see a three-some. It can work if all want it. I especially don't want Kyr left out in the cold when Katz and Allie get back with each other. And I feel as though Alessandro will be needing some "doctoring" especially on his mind. WHich could bring Kyr and Allie together outside of Katz. And Katz and Alessandro never got to explore their attraction. But Kyr needs someone too.....

While I only skimmed this thread (eek spoilers! I'm only up to the end of book three!) I have to say I'm so excited to read the rest of this series!

As much as I love (love, love, love) Darien, and Elias (my roommate doesn't even read it, but fell in love with him listening to the drama) and Kitty[Katz], and Kyr etc, I was genuinely surprised to find that I've been enjoying Lauren's growth as a character thus far. Female characters tend to get marginalized in both sci-fi and in gay fiction, but I have a genuine enjoyment for her level-headed qualities, and how she can be a capable officer and also be fun while still being feminine. That's a big deal for someone who grew up with female characters in token roles in TV and movies.

 

Now all I need to do is sell a kidney so I can have money to go buy the books. I'll send my fiancee out for ice and a cooler first thing in the morning. :v

I think Katz is a pretty cool guy.

 

He makes decisions and doesn't afraid of anything, so to speak.
