Site Administrator Graeme Posted October 27, 2011 Site Administrator Posted October 27, 2011 In today's newspaper is an article by one of the first people to see that video. I thought it should be shared Pots, parmas and coming out: a lesson in understanding
Bleu Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Very inspiring. I think anyone who has spent his/her teenage years and twenties in the closet can relate to this: feeling both hurt by the casual bullying and gay-bashing that goes on in the sports world or in school, and guilty for not stepping up against it, the silent suffering that leads to suicidal thoughts... I recommend both the video and the article.
paya Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 He's so cute. :-) It's a pity he's not active in the sport anymore, it might encourage more active sportsmen to come out, to show people gays are just people like others. Terrible accent though, had hard time to get used to it first. Graeme do you speak like that to? ;-)
Site Administrator Graeme Posted November 1, 2011 Author Site Administrator Posted November 1, 2011 I didn't hear an accent I initially read the article and then saw the video. I personally think the article is the more uplifting and hopeful of the two
Zolia Lily Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Gah, my computer won't load the video! I would have liked to have heard his accent Will have to try again later. Great article though.
Canuk Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 have to agree with you Graeme; there's no accent there!! an obviously most heartfelt and difficult story to tell. I can only imagine what it must have been like, my experience was just so different. I hope that this does help those that do have this "in a closet" feeling.
Canuk Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Just read the article - which gives more context to the video. If you read the comments to the article and you get to one by a person called "Brando" don't stop reading in a rage, many comments after that one tell "Brando" exactly where to get off.... The article is intriguing; I can imagine the shock and, on the part of the more intelligent and sympathetic players, the guilt at being a part of a group that innocuously, passively and in all ignorance contributed to a bloke doing this to himself ...for years!
