Oh my God there going to make it a Death penalty (even if the baby is dead) for an abortion in South Carolina and there trying to do the same thing in Florida. And many state are passing laws that make it illegal for gay marriage  as well as mixed marriages!

Interesting, I've not encountered a recipe that uses egg. Mum and I have a few recipes in our files given us by different folks. Without exception they are old family recipes handed down by grandmas, mine included, Plain folk (Amish, Mennonite, Brethen) and fancy (us ordinary types). They are all basically the same with minor tweaks to the amount of ingredients. Likely due to the recipes predating standardized measuring cups, etc.

I assume that the egg is used as a binding ingredient, to help the filling "set". Older recipes probably would have called for a small amount of flour or cornstarch.
