Mark Arbour Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 Most of you are musing "who wouldn't want a young Australian?" Well I need his brain, not his body. The next CAP story has some chapters set in Sydney and environs in 2004. I'm looking for someone who can help out this Seppo with his pathetic attempts at Aussie dialog. Basically all I need that person to do is read the chapters and offer suggestions as to how a real Australian 20-something would have spoken (in 2004). If you've got the time and inclination, PM me, post here, or email me at markarbour2000@yahoo.com. 2

Timothy M. Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 Failing to find any young Aussies, you could try @Bucket1 or @Graeme 2 2
Site Administrator Popular Post Graeme Posted October 18, 2020 Site Administrator Popular Post Posted October 18, 2020 There's a lot of variation in how Australians speak, so as long as you get the cultural basics right, you'll be okay. For example, Australians don't have cell phones, we have mobile phones. It's that sort of thing you have to get right. Otherwise, we get so much American and British TV, most things that would be common to either country would be fine. Speech-wise, a lot of Australians will leave off the "the" when talking about places like schools or hospitals. "He's at school. She's in hospital." Some plurals/singulars are reversed compared to American speech patterns: Math/Maths, sport/sports. Oh, and we tend to use a lot of contractions when we speak. Good luck! 8
Timothy M. Posted October 24, 2020 Posted October 24, 2020 And of course Will should go and watch some Australian football. I understand the players look very sexy in their shorts. Shame the new story is before the Lilydale Leopards had their great year, or we could have had a nice cross-over with @Graeme's stories. 1
