Progression/Power Fantasy genre- Any interest?

I'm considering jumping into this genre, since I've got a bit inspired by Solo Levelling, but noticed outside Yeoldebard, there's no one else writing stories in this genre.

Progression/Power fantasies with a main character (MC) going from weak to strong seem like a good escape for queerlings, who may need inspiration to keep striving and build confidence.

For me, I feel like the core of this genre will be:

1. Levelling up/Growth in measurable ways

2. Showcasing new challenges and abilities to solve them

3. Clear fantasy story arcs within the narrative

Are there any other authors thinking about jumping into this mostly empty genre in 2026?

That's a good idea to be the first in a new genre :)

However, I hate class and level based RPGs with Vancian magic so much, I could not get myself to write such.

I don't mind playing those types of games. But trying to read stories in that genre is a horrible slog for me. I tried to get into one recently, but the ways the character needed to level up, it was near impossible to make the narrative interesting. I get it, he had to do this to level up, but after the 37th time, it was just the same ole same ole that grew boring.

Maybe someone has done this well, maybe you'd do it amazingly, but I don't believe I would try to read that style again. It was just too repetitive.

Yes, this is coming from the same person that plays RPG's all the time and needs to get 100% completion rate before I move back to the beginning and start all over again. Maybe the reason it works so the combination of visual storytelling along with plot of the game.
