Story Tags and Genre Updates

If you saw the announcements, I have been tweaking both Genres and Tags as we lurch ever closer to our major software update going to version 5 of Invision Community.  Invision has altered how they are handling tags and as such, we have to change Stories as well.  One of the nice things coming is that readers will be able to subscribe to genres and tags so when new stories get posted in the genre or with a tag, they'll get notified.  Though I'd only follow the more obscure ones, so you are buried in notifications.

One of the nice things is that every tag and every genre will get their own page with the ability to add a cover photo and description.  Here is an example from our Test Server for Word of the Day:

Every entry would then appear below.  We can also feature an example that'll show up first.  This will be especially useful when we go to promote stories for guests. It'll be able to help surface some of our deeper content.

As part of this, I've been shuffling around some genres and tags.

You can view them all here:
https://gayauthors.org/stories/browse/genre-tag/

We remove the "Literary Fiction" Primary genre and consolidated it's sub-genres under general fiction. We also added some common general fiction sub-genres we were missing.  One exception of the historical literary sub-genre is under Historical.

For Tags, we clarified categories and added more options.  The Content Warning Category will eventually be updated to be applied separately from the rest of the tags.  Sexual Content tag as well.

Authors are encouraged to update the tags on their stories.  Put the most relevant tags on each.  I encourage you to add some of the new, currently empty tags to our stories where they apply.

I will do the best I can, just... there are a few of them so it might take me a while :)
Glad to help out though, and thanks for this @Myr

Scientist, knight, royal, explorer, editor, comedian.  Those might be possible additions to character roles/occupations.  (Though "Prince" implies royal.)

Under Paranormal/Speculative Elements -- possibly Alternate Reality, Space Travel, and Time Travel, and Shape Shifters?

Good lists, @Myr.

@Topher Lydon, my suggestion would be to sort your stories by least views, and work down the list that way. The least read ones might need better tagging to get more attention.

Or, of course, you could sort by most views because those have been more visible.

Then again… newest?

It’s tough being prolific at times like these.

Alternate Earth, space, time travel, and Shifters are already all tags.

Tags can only appear once, even though we show them in categories.  There aren't actually categories.

Added explorer and scientist.

We'll let the rest settle for now.

Question: Are we still limited to 8 tags?

Oh god, updating will take a while, I guess.

Good job, though! I really like some of the clarifications.

12 now.  But, again, we should only add tags that really fit. Not just adding ancillary ones because an item might fit.

If you use the ADD/SET tags from the story drop down menu, you can add more than twelve tags. I know because I had thirteen before editing story/tags to remove one. Probably, you don't have a limit set for using the ADD/SET tags menu option?

Yes. that bug has been reported. Hence the reminder to stay under 12 until that bug is corrected.

Damn, Lee, you have more than twice my count. 😂

Yeah, and it looks like there are twice the number of tags. Not something I want to attack on my phone. But, gotta do it

I have both, but circumstances force me to limit my time using the laptop. The tablet is never charged and probably wouldn’t be a big improvement over the phone.
