So… I have this Pandora’s box in a dirty dusty corner of my brain. It's nothing fancy like that mythological one with multiple functions and scary stuff.

Mine is more like a badly organized box where I throw in stress, random thoughts, emotions, unresolved stuff, a bit of existential crisis, mid life crisis, other crisis, some fuck-my-life moments, stuff I promise myself to deal with them and never do, and whatever chaos didn’t fit into the day.

It’s pretty efficient when I dump things in it, as in: open the lid, throw stuff in it, the quickly close the lid → now I can function like a normal human (or at least pretend convincingly).

Now there's this little problem to the whole thing:
The box is not actually that efficient or quiet.

It leaks this sticky black thing. Sometimes it hums at nights. Sometimes it throws things back at me at 3am like “remember this? no? GOOD, HERE IT IS AGAIN.”

So the smart thing would be, not to open it ever again and just sit on top of it and hope physics does it work and things settle at some point.
But first I need to open it from time to time to dump some stuff , second there are these times my brain is like:
“hey… what if we open it just a little bit and look inside for the sake of science?what’s the worst that could happen?”

Spoiler: hell!

So my carefully balanced world end in full chaos mode. I seriously would not recommend listening to that voice.

So now I’m wondering—

do other people have one of these “do not open under any circumstances” boxes
that you still kinda want to open it? And how do you work around it or handle the chaos when opened?

Don't tell me you never open it! It's one hell of a fun to engage in the spirals ...

I have different boxes for different categories of stuff.  It doesn't all go in the same box.  This allows some separation of issues.  It took some mental time to get the different categories set up.  If the original "box" gets opened, I shift what I had to get to the proverbial new category box, or try to.
