    Chapter 1

Chapter 1 15/22/238 AC MT (After Colonization, Mars Time) The night should have begun like any other for Gus. He rose, showered and shaved, pulled on his sheer body-suit and work clothes, and grabbed his gloves on his way out the door. He didn’t feel rested despite the ten hours his chronometer said he’d slept, so he opted to take the building’s lift rather than the stairs. On the way down, he fastened his gloves and scrolled through his messages. As he deleted one after another, he re
  2. Entry for the special anthology Secrets can Kill. Pop star Little D has the career he's always dreamed of. The only thing missing is the man who made all this possible. Gus was once the name in the Martian music business. Now he's just a footnote. He lost everything in a tragic accident. He even lost a significant chunk of his memory and every day is a struggle for survival. Can his former lover restore what was lost?
  3. This is awesome news! I was talking to the folks at UC Riverside just last week who had worked as part of the team to discover the higgs-bosun particle. It's been a huge, international undertaking for quantum physicists. Building the LHC took years and so did running the experiments that have led to this result.
  4. Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
  5. Max is adorable, but there are no plans for a sequel.
  6. Thank you! I agree that Max is cute, but he's got an evil sense of humor.
  7. Thanks! couldn't have done it without you!
  8. Attack of the Coffee Beast I’m not the most observant of people. Likely some of that is due to my night job, but enough people have mentioned it over the years that I’m pretty much resigned to this particular character flaw. This is how I came to find myself flinging my hand wildly to dislodge the tribble with teeth clinging by said teeth to that pad of skin between forefinger and thumb. I admit it wasn’t my proudest moment. My codename is Morpheus. You, like most people, are even now
  9. This is the morning when I met Max, sneaky little devil that he is.
  10. I am not a talker. Like Tetrefine, I tend to grunt, but I'm told I moan a lot. I've never had an experience of carrying on a conversation in the midst of sex. Now, conversations while asleep? Those, I've had, or so I've been told. haha
  11. The thing that I've encountered as a teacher in public middle and high schools is that even when you hand the parent concrete evidence of a transgression (for example: printed evidence from the web of plagiarism, or a bag of the weed taken from their locker), the parent will look you straight in the face and say, "My kid didn't/wouldn't do this. I raised them better." Someone else is always to blame, and it's usually the person who dared tell you that your kid's not perfect, because how dare you? I doubt that these kids will be punished in any meaningful way. Instead, the school district will make a plan to do something stupidly expensive and over the top and it won't go anywhere except to the news where they'll say they're "working on it." As for the others on the bus? They're the ones we need to work with from a young age to make them understand that their response shouldn't be "it's not my problem" or "I can't do anything." All the time in the news and in media (TV, movies, books, etc), we see the perspective of the bystander who later wishes they'd done something. It's not the bullies we have to find and eradicate young, it's the bystanders that we have to empower, because that's a strength of character that will never go away and is sadly lacking in society today.
  12. I suppose it's cuz on the west coast we're too flaky to ever decide anything.
  13. I'd like to add that sometimes it takes more than one ad or more than one type of advertising for betas. It took me 3 years to find a new beta after my last one moved away and we lost contact. I tried a number of different betas and none worked out. The most important part of the grand beta search is to be persistent. Don't give up.
  14. Indeed. I'd find it interesting what Ryan Reynolds has to say about all this, considering he'll forever after be known as playing "that gay superhero." Granted, he's pretty and is easily slashed, but the actor may not be willing to be in another movie. Playing a gay man in the movies/TV is a win for some (Brokeback Mountain, anyone?), but not every actor is willing to take that risk. I didn't think that the Green Lantern movie was all that great.
  15. Geez, I can't think of the name now, but one of the first playstation (original!) games I bought involved the characters turning into dragon warriors. The main character was the red dragon, his love interest was the white dragon, and others come along for the other colors. Red was fire, blue was water, white was healing, you get the picture. My fav char was a soldier and he was the green leaf/poison dragon. He was murdered at the end of the first CD and I was devastated. I didn't play the game again for months. Eventually, I got to know the other characters and the storyline was pretty great. By today's standards, of course, the graphics are awful. I'd love to see an updated version.
  16. Is that based on the book series by James Herriott? I loved that series when I was young. For TV, I'm a crime drama junkie. I love all the Law and Order shows except for Criminal Intent (can't seem to get into that one). I've recently discovered Criminal Minds and am addicted. Of course I love Star Trek, though I kinda had to force myself to watch Enterprise. That female vulcan ruined it for me. The Big Bang Theory and Glee are what I watch regularly these days. I was really into Heroes when it first came out. Lost track of it after the writer's strike, but I hear that the last season sucked, so ... Movies! Original Star Wars all the way! Can't forget the Back to the Future Trilogy, and Lord of the Rings is a must. Harry Potter! and I think that's it. Movie series don't tend to work out particularly well. I'll keep my fingers crossed regarding the next Avengers movie.
  17. Happy birthday! Thanks the gift of this wonderful site.
  18. Adam Lambert was a stage actor before American Idol. I, too, drooled over Ra ... such a supreme villain!

    To Have and to Hold

I enjoyed writing those scenes, too!
  20. Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying it. When writing dialogue, I envision the two characters talking (or arguing, or whatever). My role-playing experience helps with this, as does the little bit of drama I did in high school. It's one of my favorite parts of story-building.
  21. Frosty! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
  22. Happy Birthday, Andy! Hope you get some quality time with BabyQ and your man!
  23. Okay, I voted. Pretty much any date in July works for me. My sister arrives in early August and then I'm leaving town, so the rest of the summer is a lost cause. BTW, ComicCon is the weekend of July 12-15th.
  24. Not that I'm aware of, although Sara and I were planning on crashing the party.
