Kage’s death was also too convoluted initially to even appreciate some sense of purpose…other than being out played in yet another evil setup. The fact that Kage did not totally leave without putting up a fight, getting his own revenge, and guiding a redeeming hunt for the kids is comforting, but …he would have been great at it in person, just not as stealth as spiritually. Ironic too, is that Kage, in spirit, could actually join with Asa in the battle with Huntington.

But…but…Kage did have a darker and troubled past, so innocence in death was not his; but he too was obviously redeeming and forgiven by most readers.

Having just reached shifter puberty it’s seems Conner is soon to be on Council radar; perhaps a great introduction that he has indicated broad acceptance of other shifter types and clans, and given latitude by his Alpha grandpa. Great chapter, @Justin4Fun. I like the broader story building you’ve got going on, mixed with the clan and other family dynamics to bring us back to Conner’s more immediate world.

@paren01, I only recently found this story. It’s complexity wrapped in simplicity and is quite intriguing in many aspects. There was lots of “we” in the initial decorating conversation; can John gift green? What will the micro-biology indicate of lifespan for John; aging slows at puberty? Cell replacement doesn’t slow as growth matures? ET phone home? So many twist beyond the implications of John’s influence on earth 🌎. Yes please continue your world of JCA…Ethan; and their mentor Mr K??

Sorry @Lee Wilson, I gave it the tear; a tear that the story has ended (this book), a tear that I had hopes their rise might be a little better and a little longer given the talent and the struggles they overcame together, a tear that we didn’t get to share a little more of their stepping out as young adults reaping rewards from those tough years. How ironic that I was engaged enough that a tear was my reaction to those dreadful two words…THE END. BTW; Lee R in my tired southern drawl also becomes reminiscent of Eeyore the donkey in Pooh, which like your characters had many bad days! Hahaha

Hmmm 🤔, wow 😮, hmmm 🧐, ouch 😓, broken heart 💔, so much too unpack in this chapter and so much totally dependent on perspectives. Rusty knew this was going to be a painful trip and experience that he wanted to spare Matty; however, did he truly not want to bring Matty into his life enough to share both his good and bad influencers? Likewise his father stated that he could have probably won custody, but people are taking that to mean total custody without contact or influence from mom…not likely without total committing mom and having her judged a danger to the child. That path along can be VERY TRAUMATIC to any child. It could also result in years of foster care until the real issues can be sorted from false or exaggerated claims. Leaving a child is not an easy task and I don’t think we can necessarily judge fairly using 20/20 hindsight. Maddox’s parents are known to have had a strong history with Rusty and at no time has it been said that either of Rusty’s parents were unfit or a threat to Rusty…just that Rusty has had a difficult history and frequently also needed space from mom, a mom that goes even more bonkers when the EX visits but not for her and then even more bonkers when he leaves. So neither path is without a very probable significant and traumatic impact; perhaps the timing to that event is the only difference…but remember, that timing remains unknown until…it isn’t. Rusty is judging his dad from his mom’s heavily influenced perspective as a child being brainwashed of a bad dad…yet, why did she not judge herself by the same standards. She has been a terrible mom, making Rusty live her own pain of a loss love and her depression; yet, refusing help, as one has to want help to actually get the benefits of that help. But throughout the years, she has only now reached the level where help may become mandatory as she has become a danger to herself and others. Society measures danger much quicker when physical than it does when emotional. Mental problems are much harder to diagnose and much harder to prove, especially when the environment is constantly changing. Emotional stability can not often be measured outside a institutionally controlled environment, where it can be proven, yet you can’t institutionalize a person until at risk mental illness is proven, …so we get to the dog chasing his own tail scenario, as nothing changes and that elusive tail still wags. Rusty is not only hurting himself but now he has hurt his dad when that dad was there to help. Yes it’s hard not to be biased and/or bitter but Rusty DOES and MOM DOES need that help. But even worst is that the history of his mom and dad has washed over to now hurting Matty, as Rusty tries to spare him of his unworthiness…there is that dog out there chasing his tail again. Hopefully Matty will get the help he has available but is too hurt and too shocked to know what is real and how to handle it. Zoey to Dex to Maddox to Jonathan to Dane to Rusty….the intervention has already started if I know the Fab 4; and don’t dismiss the Queen mother and her hired Vocal coach surprising even Jonathan. 🤦‍♂️ it’s possible, it’s not entirely improbable either. This could be an all out intervention effort! Rusty is much more than that little self conscious of his allows him to believe. Though not particularly religious, and I believe this probably transcends religion,… a prayer that reflects teachings in many societies comes to mind: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I have a feeling Steve will get more formally recognized as a legal guardian of the boys, as anything removing Diego’s availability or with incapacitation, the argument for Calvin rapidly changes. Marriage along doesn’t provide that protection, it’s either adoption or as a minimum filing as legal guardian carefully avoiding any and all loopholes. Yup, fiancé doesn’t mean squat, not anything legally at all; it’s just a promissory title…and from Calvin that dust in the wind before bimbo even understood what he said. 😂 Hell yes, Steve proved his love for not only Diego, but lended way forward to protect HIS PROMISSORY family. Referencing convo above, I think the timeline for marriage may be logically best fast tracked.

Wow, much to rejoice about though the damage along the way was rather severe; not that it was of their making, but that it was ironically the less severe solution to boot. Wren is whole again, at least as we accepted him as a misfit too. Poor Talon seems to have never really recovered to himself but as Kalian said he seems happy. Loren and Suman seem to have returned to themselves and therefore with each other, so love of chaos is alive and well. Perhaps Chaos could be the sequel book as we really don’t know the story on Wyn; from where, why the dungeon as a kid, what powers does he master and mix? Likewise, the little Electric Eira has grown some and her powers are mostly unknown to us; how strong, any other powers, how controlled, ooops sorry, again, da. I can possibly see the need to move beyond the current series theme…yet, there is much that can be explored in epilogues or better yet, another book when the outline fleshes out with these wonderful misfits and orphaned chaos. So @Demiurge, you said no need to apologize, so unapologetically, please bring chaos back to us before too long…rebrand it whimsical, majikal, or whatever theme these characters are begging for, but no farewells as that is just too permanent. Otherwise, SALUTE 🫡, what an accomplishment and a tough nut to crack on just how to end a series that is a triller, drama, spy, etc. with so many threads and dynamic characters.

Then when he shared his anavi it did knock the first domino over to unlock Jacob’s Skai/Kyrios. The surprise again was that it should have killed Jacob/Kyrios as Skai yet it did not. Now, Zenial says he is unable… this seems very big and something of great interest, so of course it’s a Cliff Hanger, cousin to Ms Tery.

Hell no, he needs to be busted down a couple of ranks minimum, forfeit all Col pay (any pay above Captain) for the few months he was planning to manipulate Struan, be removed from any command positions, and made to be hands on working to remove that barrier…perhaps put that new rank on Struan and let him supervise the former CO, Col after his Courts Martial Justice. Let Struan know that new rank is permanent without service obligation…then they might have a chance of retention or at least having a good working relationship….no mercy for the Col abusing his entrusted position of leadership.

Let me guess…All leave is cancelled until morale improves; that CO needs his buns toasted for his abuse of power and position.

Hmmm 🤔, why do I sense a King Maddog and Prince Jonathan intervention coming on; either before Rusty screws the pooch or as Matty as dealing with betrayal, either way an audience before the Royal Court seems to be in the works; Zoey may need to escort the deceived to learn more of courtly protocol too. The brother from a different mother knows the mind of Rusty to a large extent while Jonathan brings the calm that helps everyone take a deep breath. Now to whom to serve notice of itinerary most appropriate for a grand ole blanket party for S.H.I.T. Head Conner…because he desperately needs a few hard knocks to enlighten him in politics. As Conner sees himself… But as reality has him.
