One last thought, one of my best friends and his wife found themselves as permanent guardians for their grandson and granddaughter at 67 years old.

My friend's wife was concerned that they were out of touch and went to see them. The house was a pigsty, the mother passed out on heroin, and the boyfriend was nowhere to be found. They find out that neither kid had been to school since last November, missing 5 months of school
Our Division of Children and Families was supposed to keep tabs on the kids because of the mother's drug history, and there's no record that they ever did, nor did the school ever call about their absences...
Much of this could go away if we paid and fully staffed these agencies. Sadly, that would mean your increased tax dollars at work....
