All one needs to know about Alan is encapsulated in the following...I miss Jordan....
“Of course it does, Alan. We have become friends. I like you and I like spending time with you. We’ve got a pretty good home here. But, we aren’t lovers, right? There’s no forever here.”
He stared at me for a few seconds. “I don’t know, Cal. You’re the one I spend all my time with. We share a home and a bed most nights. You’re the only person I’m intimate with.”
“Really, Alan? You haven’t been with anyone else?”
“Well, Brandi, but didn’t we agree that doesn’t count anymore? I was just reacting to you going out with Jordan.”
“So, if I go out with Brady, will you need to find someone to be with?”
“Maybe. Will you stay here with me if you date him? Will you still have sex with me? Are you going to blow up the great thing we have going?” His voice cracked a bit when he said “great thing.’”
“I don’t know if I’ll have sex with you if Brady and I are dating. That’ll depend on how things go with him and what he wants and what I want at the time.”
“So, I’m your fall-back postion, huh? Your Plan B. The one you’ll ‘do’ if there isn’t anyone else?”
“Fuck, Alan, of course. You’ve always said there’s no future with us and you’ve known that I eventually want to have a relationship with somebody. Since that can’t be you, of course I’m open to going out with another guy. Just like you’d drop me in a New York minute if you met the right girl. Don’t tell me you wouldn’t!”
“Maybe. But that is sometime later, when the lockdown is over, when we aren’t living here together. Later. Not now.”
